Obama: Afghanistan not 'American battle' but NATO mission

WASHINGTON (AFP) – US President Barack Obama said Tuesday the war in Afghanistan was not purely an "American battle" but was a broader NATO mission, as he met the western alliance's chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen. "This is not a American battle, this is a NATO mission," Obama told reporters after the Oval Office meeting, which comes as he launches a series of intense talks on whether to send more US soldiers to the Afghan war. "We are working actively and diligently to consult with NATO at every step of the way," Obama said. NATO Secretary-General Rasmussen put on a united front with Obama, arguing that "our operation in Afghanistan is not America's responsibility or burden alone, it is and it will remain a team effort." "I agree with President Obama in his approach: strategy first, then resources," Rasmussen said, adding that all NATO members were studying a grim report on the war by US commander General Stanley McChrystal. "This alliance will stay united and we will stay in Afghanistan as long as it takes to finish our job."

Not to early to nominate him for the 2009 “pass the buck” award.

You know, put this together with Peter Galbraith's sacking at the UN for refusal to go along with a cover up of corruption during the recent Afghan elections and Obama has his excuse to cut and run. Not that he really needed any.

I am ASHAMED for YOU LIE! treating our honorable troops this way!!! :*( :*(

Are there private civilian groups taking up money to buy the supplies they need? I’d rather send money to help them and NOT send in any taxes to YOU LIE!! to be wasted on liberal wish lists!!! >:-(

Just think, if every person in the US who loves this country sent just a dollar, that’s a possible $300million—that might not be enough for the big stuff for the troops, but it sure would make their jobs a lot easier for them if they had the basic necessities!!

OCTOBER 2, 2008— Barack Hussein Obama, candidate in his own words:

“We’ve got to get the job done there and that requires us to have enough troops there that we’re not just air raiding villages and killing civilians which is causing enormous problems there.”

There are many groups trying to get stuff to these guys. I am going to grab as many of them as I can and link them on my profile page. Check sometime tomorrow. I have other stuff I want to get up there too. We should NOT be silent about this.
bam is sending our Troops in harm’s way with NO regard for their safety. I don’t know what is going to happen. It will damn near take a mutiny to change what is going down over there.

Obama will use Defense Secretary Gates as a scapegoat as well since he is from the Bush Administration.

If he said it “should be UN mission”, I might agree, with “should” be the imperative.

Alas, it is nothing but another attempt by 0 to hide another failure on his watch.

As I saw on another post, and I love this line: May the Fail be with you.

No it is an American war over 9/11 since America was attacked NATO was obligated to help out. NATO never would have had the guts to take on afghanistan if the US didn’t invade and rout them first.

This guy is pissing off the entire world. It’s laughable to think back at the criticism of Dubya’s foreign policy, by comparison. I think Dubya is starting to look better and better to the masses. Ostammer has pissed off every one of our major allies and looks like an absolute buffoon and fool before the world. He’s a consumate embarrassment.

Isn’t America a card-carrying member of NATO? So what, as the president of a NATO member nation does the Decisive One have to say about what to do in Afghanistan? Didn’t he want us to get more deeply involved there? Will he raise an army of 50,000 men, and march them up a hill then march them down again? What is the plan, man? Hello?
