As you know, Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, begins today at sundown and ends tomorrow at sundown. The evening service begins with the Kol Nidre. It has a haunting melody and I thought you might like to hear it (guess the singer).
This is the translation from Aramaic:
"All vows, obligations, oaths, and anathemas, whether called 'konam,' 'konas,' or by any other name, which we may vow, or swear, or pledge, or whereby we may be bound, from this Day of Atonement until the next (whose happy coming we await), we do repent. May they be deemed absolved, forgiven, annulled, and void, and made of no effect; they shall not bind us nor have power over us. The vows shall not be reckoned vows; the obligations shall not be obligatory; nor the oaths be oaths."

Any idea why the traslation is from the Aramaic, and not the Biblical Hebrew?

OMG, amazing. It must be one of the great tenors? A non-Jew? I have heard some famous Jewish singers singing it but this version I have not heard. It aint the Neil Diamond version...

In a classic act of ecumenism, the prayer was set to music by Max Bruch, a Scottish Presbyterian.
Like all nations governed by men, it’s far from perfect but we need to pray for Israel in this very difficult time.
Let us also pray that the American Jews who turned to Obama in the election will repent in the next cycle as it becomes clear to them that they made a dreadful mistake — one that may lead to massive damage to or the destruction of Israel.
