"Birther" Infomercial Hits the Airwaves
CBS News ^ | 9/25/09 | Stephanie Condon

The suspicion that President Obama was born outside of the United States has been written off as a conspiracy theory, but that hasn't stopped the so-called "birther" movement from keeping their theories alive.

A fundamentalist Christian Web site LivePrayer.com has produced a 28-minute infomercial dedicated to questioning where the president was born. It has run at least once on a CBS affiliate in Lubbock, Texas.

LivePrayer.com was founded by Christian minister Bill Keller, who committed his life to God after spending time in prison for insider trading, according to his site. The infomercial is also the work of attorney Gary Kreep, executive director of the birther group United States Justice Foundation, Talking Points Memo reports. He reportedly said the infomercial will run for at least two and a half weeks on stations around the country.

Mr. Obama has "vigorously fought.. to keep his birth information secret," Keller says in the program. "What is he hiding?"

The half hour spot encourages viewers to call a phone number to add their names to a list petitioning GOP leaders to "force President Obama to obey the law." In thanks for their support, viewers will receive a "Got a birth certificate?" bumper sticker. It also informs viewers that for just $30, they can have a fax sent on their behalf to all 50 state attorneys general and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder demanding they force President Obama to supply his official State of Hawaii birth certificate.

"Join hundreds of thousands of Americans who simply want the truth," Keller says.

Keller may be right about the persistence of the rumor -- a recent poll showed that that 42 percent of Republicans believe Barack Obama was born outside of the United States while 22 percent said they were unsure.

And while the White House has, of course, dismissed the theory as "totally crazy," some Republicans have quietly perpetuated the myth. California Rep. John Campbell co-sponsored a bill (with at least nine others) requiring presidential candidates to submit a birth certificate and refused to give a straight answer when asked whether he believed the president was born in the United States.

...executive director of the birther group United States Justice Foundation.

The USJF existed long before the 'birther' movement, it is a conservative legal foundation. That would be like saying that Free Republic is a birther group because we have birthers here.

The suspicion that President Obama was born outside of the United States has been written off as a conspiracy theory,...

When did this happen and who wrote it off?

I love these MSM editorials disguised as "news" stories.

Let's see:

"some Republicans have quietly perpetuated the myth"

Hey Stepahnie. Your arse; a hole in the ground. There is a difference.

This reporter obviously went to the Saul Alinsky school of journalism.

What is truly amazing is that the MSM can stand there and support the refusal of the President of the United States to show his birth certificate.

Everything else aside, that is a pretty amazing level of defiance - even for them!

Gary Kreep is representing two of the plaintiffs in Keyes v Obama.

perpetuated the myth

I spoke to a former neighbor today for the first time in several years. I made some remark about not having seen the birth certificate so she asked me, "Do you really believe that stuff?" She might have made some reference to the birth document posted on the Internet. But if she didn't, I did. I said: "You are doubtless aware that numerous case have been brought challenging Obama's eligibility. Not once have lawyers representing Obama presented this birth document to a court. It would be so simple to do if it might be considered sufficient proof of anything." She had no further questions about this.

I’m surprised that they even report on the birther movement.

Not surprised that they are contemptous of us, but the fact they report on it at all is surprising. They more this is in the news... the better for us and the worse for the Poser in Cheif.

The simple question is: Why WON'T he show us the Birth Certificate?

What a opportunity for him to just slam-dunk and birthers and the right...IF he actually had it, he would do it in a new york minute.

I've mentioned this before, but the next time we march on Washington, I wish everyone would make a reduced copy of their birth certificate, put it in one of those I.D. Badge holders with a lanyard, and wear it around their neck. Their T-shirt could read, "Hey, obama...I'll show you mine if you show us yours!"

The "birthers" may be totally wrong, but the old saying "something is rotten in Denmark" keeps popping into my head everything I think about the money and trouble he goes do to keep his past HIDDEN.

You people do not understand. B. Hussein Obama is a god. He is idoloized by most Americans and the Elite Media. NOBODY GIVES A RAT'S REAR THAT HE WAS BORN IN KENYA!!!! You could produce pictures of him in bed with a dead girl or a live boy and nobody would give a crap. BTW, I'm one of those who still believes Larry Sinclair's story.

Falling right into Obama’s trap. These birthers are making us looks like fools. Wasn’t there a birth announcement? Do we ignore that like the Truthers ignore the facts? Flame away. I don’t even care.
