...if there is a willful failure to file, pay, maintain appropriate records and the like that the taxpayer may be charged with a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to $25,000 and not more than one year in jail.

What are they going to with all those homeless people. Some live under bridges, in tunnels, and in tent cities. I guess jail will be an improvement.

Soem people do not have to pay taxes. But this bill requires them to pay for insurance or go to jail.

Get the federal government out of health care and return it to the states where our neighbors can be held accountable for their actions and charity is face-to-face.

Most of the people who couldn’t pay were probably already on forms of welfare, so this is simply part of it; that wouldn’t change.

Many of the non-welfare people who don’t have health insurance are self-employed and can’t qualify for it for one reason or another (either a pre-existing condition or because they are forced to buy low-deductible coverage they can’t afford), but do pay for it, over time if necessary.

I’m sure you’re also aware that the uninsured are charged a higher rate than that charged to insurance companies.

I am peeved by our local Catholic conference’s newsletter —we need health reform now, — WHY? WHY at the NATIONAL LEVEL?

You need to explain a few things to these idiots. There WILL BE death panels, there will be Catholic Hospitals put out of business because they don't perform abortions, there will be many, many doctors leaving the profession because they will be working for vertually peanuts, there will be abortions on demand with the taxpayer picking up the bill, etc. etc.

So, all those young ladies who worked at the child care center, and chose not to buy into the company health care program because the premiums cost more than the whole of their meager wages would suddenly become criminals?

Then we ALL pay for you.

Insurance is not required to pay hospital or doctor bills.

...then there has to be some fine for the freeloaders.

Or, they could be made to pay their bills.
How is this any different than going bankrupt over unsecured loans or mortgages? Why not have mandatory insurance for those too so that we don't have to pay for those free loaders?

Similar to mandatory enrollment in Medicare (in order to receive Soc Sec benefits). Swell.

I WILL petition the bastards to enact health standards if they pass this and make it mandatory.
- AIDs prevention or FINES!
- eating healthy or FINES!
- maintaining weight or FINES!

(I intend the above only for government btw)

The cool thing is...in jail you'd get three square meals, and free health care!!! If it weren't for getting a boyfriend out of the deal, too, it might be worth not paying.

Give it some time. The ACLU and LGBT will advocate the release of the pitchers and catchers, so the only safe place will be inside the prison.

What do we do with those that ARE insured but who also act irresponsibly?

They force insurance rates up too and the cost of their acts is passed along to someone who sits at home all year.

(I believe that high risk occupations will NOT be forced to pay higher premiums... their unions were screaming mad over that. Wouldn’t have mattered, it has been and would be passed along onto the tax payer anyway)

Indigent care is another story entirely. That’s covered under Medicaid and is a different discussion. We can argue about that all day long, but that’s a case where people don’t even have the income to make a payment plan and can prove it to the gov’t, so the taxpayers pay.

This guy is trying to drag out the Romney canard that everyone who is uninsured somehow hurts the collective and should therefore be forced to buy insurance. People who qualify for Medicaid are insured by Medicaid. Even if they’re not yet enrolled, they can and will be when they fill out the forms.

In a FREE country people aren’t forced to buy insurance.

But how is it ever prevented again? How can socialism be outlawed in a free republic?

They don't need to arrest people, they will just taking what they want directly from your accounts or if you fight, they will litigate you to death, then sell off your property while your fellow "Americans" pick over your stuff at the auction.

The government owns you half the year now, what's another month to a serf?

The whole concept of property rights has been trashed- this government only serves itself. Soon there will be no rights at all.

>>How can socialism be outlawed in a free republic?

It starts with a rePUBLIC that fully engages the rights (and responsibility) secured to it via the 1st amendment - instead of CONSUUUMING bread, circuses, and Free Pie.

Of course - I fired that one out on post #48. The total end game is no private property. Period. Every bit of legislation they have run through or are planning to has that element in it. What isn't done directly through legislation will get taken care of through actions of regulatory agencies. One way or another they intend to eventually own everything and call the shots - provided they can get away with it.

They aren’t going to fine the freeloaders.

What they are trying to do is force the segment of the population that is the least likely to use health care- young people whose health is generally excellent but who are not buying insurance for that very reason- to become the new host for the parasite of so-called “progressivism.” They have sucked everyone else dry and need a new host.

I suppose this is why the Democrats are so eager to empty the jails of real criminals and deviates (who overwhelmingly vote Democrat) so they can free up prison space for people who can't or won't pay for health care.

Under Obamunism, it might not be so bad. If they send you to jail, you're guaranteed a roof over your head, three square meals a day (probably of sprouts and tofu), free health care (oh, the irony!), a free ACLU lawyer and all the homosexual sex you could possibly want. The only downside is the nightly devotionals to Obama you'll have to memorize and recite.
