Ensign receives handwritten confirmation This doesn't happen often enough.
Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) received a handwritten note Thursday from Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staft Tom Barthold confirming the penalty for failing to pay the up to $1,900 fee for not buying health insurance.
Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and could face up to a year in jail or a $25,000 penalty, Barthold wrote on JCT letterhead. He signed it "Sincerely, Thomas A. Barthold."
The note was a follow-up to Ensign's questioning at the markup.

Ah yes.......the internment camps that people deny.
It’s a tax and the same thing happens when one doesn’t pay their taxes.
Come and take me!
Jail!
Sounds like debtor prison to me
Ah yes, back to the 19th century we go...
Except for illegal aliens.

Unless you are an illegal alien.
Those Progressives keep pushing us back, don't they? I though they wanted us to live a 1930's lifestyle, but now it looks like the 1800's are where we should be. Dickensian London! Great times! [/s]
I don’t think we have a government “of the people, by the people and for the people” anymore Toto.

No House? Buy homeowners insurance or else.
No Job? Buy unemployment insurance or else.

Even more devastating is the actual note which you have to click on the politico link to see.
It reads:
...if there is a willful failure to file, pay, maintain appropriate records and the like that the taxpayer may be charged with a misdemeanor with a penalty of up to $25,000 and not more than one year in jail.
then he adds a sort of post script:
Felony tax evasion provides for restitution and a fine of up to $100,000 for an individual and up to five years in jail.

Can this get any worse? I think we need a 2nd revolution!
IRS, enforcement of medical care.
Does America get it now: Baucas/Obamacare is a tax and spend legislation, similar to the many other programs; only this time they get to determine what care you are entitled to. ‘Those who would sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither’ - Benjamin Franklin
“Buy insurance or go to jail!”
I understand that most of us in this forum find this objectionable.
What I’d like to know from people here, though, is what do you do with a system like we have now where irresponsible people without insurance are covered anyway, so the rest of us end up paying for them?
I would not object to people not having to buy insurance if they would be on their own or in the mercy of charity or family in case of a medical problem. But are we as a society prepared to do this? What other solutions do you have?
But, wait! I thought O-care was going to take care of us! Is there some special kind of insurance we have to buy? What if we don’t go to doctors? Gee, whiz.
