MIDDLEVILLE (WZZM)- A West Michigan woman says the state is threatening her with fines and possibly jail time for babysitting her neighbors' children.
Lisa Snyder of Middleville says her neighborhood school bus stop is right in front of her home. It arrives after her neighbors need to be at work, so she watches three of their children for 15-40 minutes until the bus comes.
The Department of Human Services received a complaint that Snyder was operating an illegal child care home. DHS contacted Snyder and told her to get licensed, stop watching her neighbors' kids, or face the consequences.
"That we have babysitting police running around this state violating people, threatening to put them in jail or fine them $1,000 for helping their neighbor is truly outrageous" said State Representative Brian Calley.
Calley is drafting legislation that would exempt people who agree to care for non-dependent children from day care rules as long as they're not engaged in a business.
A DHS spokesperson would not comment on the specifics of the case but says they have no choice but to comply with state law, which is designed to protect Michigan children.
Must be she wasn’t in on the forced unionization.
This is too much.
It’s more than a Nanny State. It’s a Unionized Nanny State.
Like OSHA in overdrive.
Well, she is acting like a nanny. And the real Nanny State is gonna object.
They’re just angry with her because she didn’t teach the children the Obama pledge.
Unbelievable!
I must be guilty of this made-up ‘crime’ a hundred times over for the number of kids (relatives and friends’ kids) I’ve had in my ‘unlicensed’ care over the years from 15 minutes to going on 20 years, LOL!
What about all the sleep-over weekends with the cousins, while ‘The Moms’ drank, smoked and played cards all weekend and we kids pretty much fended for ourselves...and LOVED every minute of it!
I’m going to demand reparations from those 70 year old floozies! They ruined my life! *SNORT*
Did you really think we want those laws observed? said Dr. Ferris. We want them to be broken. Youd better get it straight that its not a bunch of boy scouts youre up against... Were after power and we mean it... Theres no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there arent enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? Whats there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted and you create a nation of law-breakers and then you cash in on guilt. Now thats the system, Mr. Reardon, thats the game, and once you understand it, youll be much easier to deal with. - Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged 1957
Rand was a prophet.
Today I was at the drug store stocking up on cold prepariations. I had four 8 oz cough syrup on the counter. When my items were rung up the machine told the clerk that I could only purchase three.
Becasue of course, some criminals use the cough medicine in some illeagal drug recipes.
So I am less free. I told the man, dont worry about it but I am so tired of the regulations I am forced to bear! He looked up and said Me too. Two or three other people in line chimed in.
There are a lot of frustratd people out here.
The wife and I just rewatched “Demolition Man”. The most interesting part the second time around was the absolute beta-male society that forbade everything, which was headed by a seemingly peace-loving leader - who was in actuality a sleezebag.
Watch it, and see if it does not remind you of Obamaland.
Near as I can figure, we’re gonna have to end Obamaland the same way as betamale land was ended in the movie.
Frustration is good, it leads to anger, action, and then revolution.

This is outrageous. The state of Michigan must set the standard for stupidity. I know it’s not scientific but every time I see a story from that state, it’s negative. There must be some positive things coming out of Michigan but I can’t remember any.
You know, I could watch my neigbor’s kids, she could watch mine. We could pay each other, pay taxes, lose money, have inspectors over, be worse off, and the economy would officially have grown.
I love government.
Time to erect the lemonade stand.
Who turned this bad lawbreaker in? They deserve a medal. /s
Hillsdale college is good. The Thomas Moore law center is in Ann Arbor. We have decent gun laws.
We’re far more conservative than it seems. Detroit and a couple of other urban centers hurt us bad.
Should have stole the 4th one.
Just to be fair. Gettin’ over on the Man.
Perhaps they’d prefer the mother quit her job and become a stay-at-home mom? That dosen’t exactly square with the femnazi state, does it?
