Obama wows U.N. crowd. Reason? He's not George W. Bush
LA Times ^ | September 23, 2009 | Johanna Neuman

Posted on 09/23/2009 7:55:53 AM PDT by La Lydia

President Obama made his first address to the U.N. General Assembly today. He had them at hello. Even his opening -- "It is my honor to address you as the 44th president of the United States" -- got a round of applause.

The reason? The latest Pew Global Attitudes Survey of 21 countries found global confidence in Obama’s leadership on foreign affairs at 71% -- far higher than approval ratings at home (in the low 50% range) and even more striking matched against world opinion of George W. Bush last year, which Pew tracked at 17%.

To Nile Gardiner of London's Daily Telegraph, Obama’s popularity at the U.N. "boils down essentially to his willingness to downplay American global power." Said the columnist:

The Obama mantra appears to be – ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do to atone for your country. This is a message that goes down very well in a world that is still seething with anti-Americanism.

For his part, Obama did expunge the cowboy diplomacy of his predecessor..."Those who used to chastise America for acting alone in the world cannot now stand by and wait for America to solve the world’s problems alone. We have sought — in word and deed — a new era of engagement with the world. Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges...."

Talk about spin...he didn’t “wow” them. And his speech sounded quite a bit like one of his campaign speeches...long on appeal to place in history and devoid of details.

If the U.N. is happy about America, real Americans should be unhappy. If the U.N. is unhappy about America, real Americans should be thrilled.

If you are hired to run a store in the ‘hood, a quick way to become popular with your neighbors is to apologize for the owner’s high prices, and then give everything in the store away to them for free.

You might be surprised when the owner gets wise to the cause of your newfound popularity and fires you, however.

Of COURSE Hussein was a big hit at the UN. After all, he hates the United States as much as THEY do!

“For his part, Obama did expunge the cowboy diplomacy of his predecessor.” And, he replaced it with Chicago style machine politics with all its corruption.

Translation: Obama's hatred for America resonates with the envious masses worldwide.

People act as if anti-Americanism began because of George W. Bush and it should go away because Obama is the anti-Bush. In fact it’s been around for ages. I ran across a passing reference to anti-Americanism by a British scholar in something published in 1963 (so maybe written a year or two earlier), as if it was a well-known phenomenon in Europe at that time.

Obozo attempted to make a joke about how his 9 months in office often feels like a lot more. There was zero laughter from the UN assembly. Contrast that with how our media would have busted a gut at that comment. I’m not so sure that Obozo has the world eating out of his hand. More like they see him as someone they can manipulate to their ends, which is why they like him as opposed to Bush.

As I write this, Obozo is on in the background, displaying his simplistic naivete to the envious idiots at the UN. This idealistic, narcissistic simpleton makes Chamberlain look like the Terminator.

He’s describing a leftist dominated utopia that is virtually impossible as it denies basic human nature.

If we took the first person pronouns out of the language, this poster boy for the Peter Principle would be speechless. But he found enough other words to toss Israel further into the increasingly crowded space under the bus.

He and Soros and the rest of his handlers are the living embodiment of Mencken’s warning that “The urge to save humanity is often a false front for the urge to rule.”

God help us!!

Let’s stop pretending that GWB was some kind of a conservative hero.

‘Cuz he wasn’t.
