Ambulances race to Byrd's home By: Manu Raju September 22, 2009 10:16 AM EST
Ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the Northern Virginia home of Sen. Robert Byrd Tuesday morning.
A neighbor of the 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat said several ambulances were outside his residence in McLean, Va., and a Byrd spokesman said the senator suffered a fall in his home. An officer at the McLean Fire Department said that a unit was dispatched at 9:10 to the address where Byrd lives, but he declined to comment on the substance of the response.
Byrd the longest-serving senator in the nations history has been absent from the Senate for much of the year and has been in and out of the hospital battling various ailments.
Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down, said Jesse Jacobs, a spokesman for the senator. To err on the side of caution his caregiver called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being checked out. At this point in time there is no indication that he will be admitted.

They always send fire trucks along with ambulances even if theres no report of fire. It was just in case Sheets got the cross lit before they arrived.

I’d like to see him live for a while longer. One less democRAT vote since he still occupies the WVA seat.

"Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down," Tripped over his sheet.
Not a cool comment, kabar.
This is a more common problem than you might think. When you sit up from bed, the blood rushes away from your brain (gravity doing its thing). In people with less than clear arteries, it sometimes takes a little time for the blood to recycle back to the brain. If you try to stand too fast, the lack of blood in the brain causes dizziness and down you go.
My dad had a similar problem the last 10 years or so of his life. It's old age, nothing more. He just had to remember to sit on the edge of the bed for a few seconds in the morning before standing.

Byrd’s standing up for the Constitution recently is something I missed. With our contemporary politicians, ‘pubbies or ‘rats, do we still have a Constitution?

I hope he lives another 50 years, just not in the senate. Ever since January 1999, when he said “While these (the impeachment charges against Clinton) rise to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors, I’ll not vote to remove;” I lost any respect I had for him.

I know in my area, the FD shows up for everything because they get very little $ if they don't.
A fender bender will have half a dozen show up to stand around.

What an embarrassment to the Democrats! It is completely lost on African Americans that the longest serving Democrat senator is a former Klansman!

Geez, how many ambulances does it take to pick up one person? They might be for the 'support staff' who stroked out when it dawned on them that they might be out of a cushy government job pretty soon...
