Ambulances race to Byrd's home By: Manu Raju September 22, 2009 10:16 AM EST
Ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the Northern Virginia home of Sen. Robert Byrd Tuesday morning.
A neighbor of the 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat said several ambulances were outside his residence in McLean, Va., and a Byrd spokesman said the senator suffered a fall in his home. An officer at the McLean Fire Department said that a unit was dispatched at 9:10 to the address where Byrd lives, but he declined to comment on the substance of the response.
Byrd the longest-serving senator in the nations history has been absent from the Senate for much of the year and has been in and out of the hospital battling various ailments.
Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down, said Jesse Jacobs, a spokesman for the senator. To err on the side of caution his caregiver called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being checked out. At this point in time there is no indication that he will be admitted.

It’s completely absurd, and if the members of the Constitutional Convention could have looked ahead and seen this guy, I have little doubt they would have put term limits into the original constitution.
The Democrats will put a nursing home right in the Capitol building rather than let Byrd retire and risk the strong likelihood that a Republican will win his seat.
How in the HELL is this man a Senator? And for the Democrats, who love to shout “Racist” in a crowded room???
That quote is absolutely insane. Has he ever disavowed or apologized for it?? What is up with his constituents?
I see Karl Rove has recently changed the setting on his hurricane causing machine to “cause physical failure to old senators”
This isn’t looking good for ol’Sheets . . .
Maybe he tripped on his sheet while he was getting up.
This hospital visit is more than just him falling..I think the Dem's are trying to get a replacement for him preferably a black..that loves Obama..
You and I, among others, feel the same.
A couple of years ago, I was diagnosed with an atrial flutter. My doctor gave me an EKG, and then said he was going to admit for some more protest. He said I’d have to go by ambulance. I complained, saying I could jog over to the hospital, but he insisted. So the ambulance showed up ALONG with a fire engine w/ladder. It was a one-story building. My insurance covered $500 but I had to spring for $150 for the fire truck. Then the ambulance started to take me to the wrong hospital.
FYI: I have run marathons. There was a point where my pulse was around 43 beats a minute. I used to get dizzy when I got up too fast. Same thing happened to George Bush when he almost choked on a peanut.
Yeah, similar to those classy remarks made about the late, great Teddy Kennedy/sarc
I live in McLean and am very happy with the emergency services, which I used a few years ago.
Good Gawd!
TERM LIMITS NOW!
Despite growing up near the ghettos of Chicago, the worst poverty I have ever seen was in the mountains of West Virginia and on the Indian reservations in South Dakota.
Agreed, the worst I’ve seen is on reservations in Arizona.
I’m sure that when he goes the dems in general will praise him for his support of the downtrodden, blacks will praise the old Klukster as being a giant in support of minorities and there will be an appropriate period in which to parade the corpse for political purposes.
Now was that a left at the Robert D. Byrd high school or the Robert D. Byrd middle school? If you passed the Robert D. Byrd library then you went too far. Turn around and go right on the Byrd Parkway until you get...
I lived in Clarksburg WV for a little over a year back in the early 2000’s-the most miserable place I’ve ever been.
His rapidly declining health grieves me deeply. My dreams are rapidly dissolving.
You see, I've fervently hoped for years that I'd live to see the day when all three of:
Castro, TeddyK, ByrdKleagle
were tossed out on their ears by the masses they ruled over - in the case of the last two, electorally speaking, and in the case of the first, coupdetatedly speaking.
The odds of seeing any shred of these fond dreams come true is fast going down the toilet.
Motor racing is real big in Dixie. Has anyone heard who took the checkered flag?
How about - "West Byrdjinia"??
