Ambulances race to Byrd's home By: Manu Raju September 22, 2009 10:16 AM EST
Ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the Northern Virginia home of Sen. Robert Byrd Tuesday morning.
A neighbor of the 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat said several ambulances were outside his residence in McLean, Va., and a Byrd spokesman said the senator suffered a fall in his home. An officer at the McLean Fire Department said that a unit was dispatched at 9:10 to the address where Byrd lives, but he declined to comment on the substance of the response.
Byrd the longest-serving senator in the nations history has been absent from the Senate for much of the year and has been in and out of the hospital battling various ailments.
Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down, said Jesse Jacobs, a spokesman for the senator. To err on the side of caution his caregiver called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being checked out. At this point in time there is no indication that he will be admitted.

I suspect Byrd's heart is giving out and he is not getting enough oxygen to his brain as a result.
He needs to recover. There are 55 counties in WV and there could still be one or two lacking a public building named for Robert C. Byrd.
Besides, it's better to have him as a non-voting Senator than to have a Democrat in there who can actually show up and vote.
The firemen in our area are EMTs. First responders. The ambulance may only have personnel capable of transport to the hospital. Some ambulances come with paramedics. It is also common to dispatch a police officer ahead of the fire/ambulance crew in cases where the need for the call is a consequence of physical violence inflicted on the victim. The perpetrator of the violent act may still be on scene and a hazard to the responding medical personnel.
Is Byrd on his way to meet up with Ted Kennedy???
The Kleagle has landed. Ouch.
Buddy of mine (75) died in May after falling and hitting his head on concrete. Bob and his wife were out for their morning walk and he stood up rapidly after he bent over to pick up the neighbor’s paper to throw on her porch because “she’s an old lady”, in Bob’s words.
Bob was a character, Korean War vet (187th RCT), retired NYC cop, a fellow gun nut and worked 17 years for the USPS after coming to Florida, been retired about 7 years.
I miss him a lot.
Disagree with the man on just about everything, but prayers going up that he wasn’t hurt badly!
(Maybe he fell on his pocket Constitution and it saved him from greater injury??)
verg
would be nice if someone would give us a seriousss ansahh, wouldn’t it?
Love all the classy responses on this thread /sarc
Who won?
I have an electrical short somewhere in my van, and this summer accidentally locked my 9 month old son in it, without any windows open, and the A/C off (van locked itself, I swear!)—
Called 911 to ask for help and specifically said, it’s not an emergency, but it is a warm day and we were facing the sun, could someone come help us out?
Seconds later we heard the siren and horn honking of a firetruck and my 8 y/o’s eyes got really big when this giant fire truck drove up, rearing to go—a police car was right behind. I was embarrassed, but they shook off my comments, saying it was better to be safe than sorry, and that the fire dept could get into the van faster than just the police in case it was an emergency situation.
I was very grateful they ‘wasted their resources’ on my son! They had him out of there in less than 5 minutes and they were on their way!
He has complained about all of the czars Obama has installed. I hope he gets better soon.
He said Obama's "czars" were unconstitutional -- and, as I recall, he said it more forcefully than any Republicans!
“Just as they trot out Dukakas to replace the Kennedy vote. Whoops.”
beat me to it.
fire trucks...mustve been a cross burnin ???
LOL!!
The Rats are working furiously on replacing him with another rat Im sure.
Did Obama visit him recently? Hmmmm . . . his grandmother, Sen. Kennedy . . . inquiring minds would like to know!
“He should have made sure the eye-holes in the hood were properly aligned before trying to navigate through the living room to get his torch and rope. “
ROTFLOL!!!!!! Good one.
“Byrd...has been absent from the Senate for much of the year and has been in and out of the hospital battling various ailments.”
So the State of WV has been without the representation of one of their senators for this year (at least). Ted Kennedy was also MIA for most of the year due to his illness. The senator who had a stroke from one of the Dakotas was out for how long? (Is he back yet?) These politicians are so arrogant that they hang on and hang on, even though they can no longer do their jobs. To he!! with their constituents.
