ACORN CEO 'Outraged' by Behavior of Employees in Prostitute Tapes
Fox News ^ | September 20, 2009 | Staff

Posted on 09/20/2009 11:03:35 AM PDT by yoe

ACORN's top officer said Sunday that she was "outraged" by the content of hidden-camera videotapes showing her organization's employees offering advice to undercover filmmakers posing as a pimp and prostitute, as she pledged to "reform" the inner workings of the activist group.

Chief organizer Bertha Lewis tried to calm a growing firestorm over the behavior of her group's employees. Allegations of voter registration fraud and other ethical lapses have plagued ACORN for years, but the videotapes were the last straw for the group's critics -- as well as its long-time defenders.

The videotapes, filmed by two conservative activists, led to both the House and Senate voting to de-fund ACORN last week. Many Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the measures.

[snip] "Internally, let's have some reform," Lewis said. "It's indefensible what I saw (in the tapes)."

[snip] President Obama, in an interview broadcast Sunday, also said he favors an investigation into ACORN. At the same time, he played down the controversy, saying it is not the "biggest issue facing the country."

Did you notice that during the entire interview she never once looked at Representative Issa?

YES! It was quite rude. And she did skate on answering at least one of those questions.

I guess "not getting distracted" is community-organizer-speak for ignoring the question in favor of the "greater good."

She never took responsibility for slamming Fox for work that they didn't do.

Yes - Acorn International is now Community Organizations International (COI)

From http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/opinion/s_630596.html

ACORN’s new name
Tuesday, June 23, 2009

When the term “liberal” became too big an albatross around the necks of the leftists among us, they decided to use the “progressive” moniker. But no matter what they call themselves, most people understand them to be garden-variety socialists.

Now comes word that ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is changing its name. But no matter if it’s ACORN or COI — Community Organizations International — it can run but it cannot hide.

ACORN is under investigation in at least 14 states, Pennsylvania included, for allegations of voter registration fraud. The FBI is involved. ACORN is responsible for 400,000 fraudulent voter registrations nationwide, says Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. And the Obama administration and Democrats want ACORN to have a role in next year’s census?

ACORN also played no small part in the subprime mortgage mess, championing loans to those who could not afford them.

And ACORN is involved in a nasty internal mess. An embezzlement scandal of a decade ago, long kept silent, spawned whistle-blowers to act. They’re now being threatened with a lawsuit, The Washington Examiner reports. An ACORN affiliate has filed a lawsuit against the voter registration whistle-blower, it says.

So, ACORN is changing its name — Community Organizations International, or COI. Remember that new name. Remember that new acronym. And beware.

International now?

I wonder if they had anything to do with the rigged elections in Iran and (perhaps) Afghanistan?

Cutting funding doesn’t put people in jail for fraud.

"ACORN's top officer said Sunday that she was "outraged" by the content of hidden-camera videotapes "

Liar. If it's that widespread throughout the organization, you know all about it, and condone it.

from another source:

As ACORN has its national headquarters in New Orleans (1024 Elysian Fields Avenue), it doesn’t take a huge leap of imagination to realize NYACA is an ACORN front. But NYACA isn’t entirely devoid of a New York connection: One of its employees is Bertha Lewis, head of ACORN’s New York City affiliate. And the Kests until a decade ago ran the New York City operation. That’s when Ms. Lewis assumed the reins. ... via 33 posted on Monday, September 21, 2009 12:23:45 AM by kcvl

OPINION: Watching ACORN during the last presidential election (via Fox News, blogs, youtubes and some old media coverage; I for one can say nothing surprises me anymore regarding ACORN or Democrats.

We knew ACORN was a problem back in the early 80s.

I was involved with a local "NPU" or "Neighborhood Planning Unit" which was a semi-representative neighborhood group for the City of Atlanta. We were dealing with some local issues (moving a garbage dump, water, commercial zoning) and a couple of ACORN goons showed up and tried to get involved. They were noisy, ideological, and not too bright. I was warned from 3-4 different sources (including our city council member) that they were 'dirty', and told them 'thanks but no thanks'. They got a little huffy but went away.

Nobody ever investigated them, I think because they played the race card at every opportunity and the local pols figured it wasn't worth the pain to deal with it. Our council member was white, and I think she was afraid.
