(Debunk:) First on the Ticker: Bush, Palin aide disputes book claims

A former aide to George W. Bush and Sarah Palin is dismissing a claim by onetime Bush speechwriter Matt Latimer that the former president was clueless about Palin when she was tapped as John McCain's running mate last August. ... But Jason Recher, who served as special assistant to President Bush and as a traveling aide to Palin during the campaign, said the former President was well aware of Palin — especially since the two met in person in Alaska just three weeks before Palin was added to the Republican ticket.

For example, he writes that President Bush didn’t know who Sarah Palin was. That’s rubbish — Bush had just met Palin the previous month in Alaska, and he mentioned that to me literally two seconds after McCain made his announcement.

That's rubbish — Bush had just met Palin the previous month in Alaska, and he mentioned that to me literally two seconds after McCain made his announcement. So much of what Latimer claims the president said don't ring true to me. I was with the president for whole days at a time, through thick and thin, and I never heard him say things like that about others. And I don't think he's ever even said the word "keister." C'mon.

More BS from political lackeys like Latimer who come up with this kind of crap to further their own self interests, e.g. get a new job. Screw them.

I will say that Mr Recher did Mrs Palin no favors though with his comment that she’s “a big fan of George Bush” and that there’s “no space between them”. He should have stopped while he was ahead.

Never let the facts get in the way of a large book advance.

The story is not only a crock of sh*t, but it proves the UTTER desperation of the Democrats.

They are now reduced to treating BUSH (Chimpy Bushitler, don't you know) staffers as "credible sources" in their attempt to smear Sarah.

PWN3D.

Cheers!

She has a son in Iraq (though he should be home soon. The 1/25 should all be back by Oct 2). As a Blue Star mom, she appreciated the job he was doing as commander in chief.

You know, given Palin’s record of fiscal responsibility as Governor that she didn’t approve of Bush’s failure to reign in federal spending. But when have you ever heard her speak ill of another Republican? She takes Ronald Reagan’s “11th Commandment” to heart and practices what he preached.

Same with the bailout. She didn’t approve of it, but she said she did because McCain, by his words and deeds, essentially forced her into having to say it.

She’s been a team player in the past, but I think she wants to be head coach now. At least I hope she does.

Agreed. I just don’t think the quote making her out to be Kathy Bates to W’s James Caan was all that helpful.

I also just realized that in the McCain anecdote he has W saying “this is a five spiral crash, boys”. Would Bush really something like that about McCain, when it was just exactly a five spiral crash that was the key moment in his life. Sounds a bit insensitive and I can’t really picture Buhs invoking a plane crash when talking about McCain, but who knows.

The Palin remarks weren’t even really about her, more about the wisdom of putting her where they did. The position he refers to isn’t the office of VP but more just the fact that she’d instantly become target #1 of the media and dem/liberal machine. On that he was 100% correct. She probably wasn’t prepared for the onslaught, no one would be.

I think given all that has gone down she wouldn’t have accepted the position if offered today, but at the time she had no way of knowing the economy would totally implode in a little more than 2 weeks and she was being given a 50-50 chance of being the VP of the US, the most popular figure in the party and likely a 100% shot at being the nominee in 2012 and the 1st woman ever to be nominated for President(I wouldn’t be shocked if McCain would have stepped down in 2011 to give her a head start). No one in politics would turn that down.

There is one really good quote in the book that I hope is true. “If B.S. was a currency, Joe Biden would be a billionaire.” -G.W.B.
