Agreed. I just don’t think the quote making her out to be Kathy Bates to W’s James Caan was all that helpful.
I also just realized that in the McCain anecdote he has W saying “this is a five spiral crash, boys”. Would Bush really something like that about McCain, when it was just exactly a five spiral crash that was the key moment in his life. Sounds a bit insensitive and I can’t really picture Buhs invoking a plane crash when talking about McCain, but who knows.
The Palin remarks weren’t even really about her, more about the wisdom of putting her where they did. The position he refers to isn’t the office of VP but more just the fact that she’d instantly become target #1 of the media and dem/liberal machine. On that he was 100% correct. She probably wasn’t prepared for the onslaught, no one would be.
I think given all that has gone down she wouldn’t have accepted the position if offered today, but at the time she had no way of knowing the economy would totally implode in a little more than 2 weeks and she was being given a 50-50 chance of being the VP of the US, the most popular figure in the party and likely a 100% shot at being the nominee in 2012 and the 1st woman ever to be nominated for President(I wouldn’t be shocked if McCain would have stepped down in 2011 to give her a head start). No one in politics would turn that down.
