‘supported’ should be ‘UNsupported’...
Someday I’ll learn to ingest enough caffiene before ranting.... ;)
Just heard on FNC...
“expect three more arrests in the Denver area”...
Still developing....
Thanks, Uncle Ike. I heard the same. This is far from over.
Looks like Papa was the sleeper.
The kids 24/26 that means a teenager when 911 happened.
8 years of steady indoctrination in jihad, culminating with a “go” after returning from Pakistan.
Thanks UI, Just turned on FNC - an update on the plot will be discussed in a few moments.
The FBI has been watching Zazi for a year.

Feds unsure if arrest of Najibullah Zazi and two others has foiled al-Qaeda terror plot
DAILY NEWS ^ | September 20th 2009 | James Gordon Meek

Federal agents from Denver and New York to Pakistan are still racing to solve an Al Qaeda bomb plot, unsure whether the arrest of three suspects has put the terror gang out of business.
“They’re still looking,” a senior counterterror official told the Daily News. As to whether they have identified all the conspirators, “nobody knows the answer for sure,” ...
Also nabbed for lying to feds was Flushing mosque Imam Ahmad Wais Afzali, 37, an NYPD snitch who the FBI says alerted Zazi and his father, Mohammed, 53, after cops quizzed him about the son.
The senior official said the feds believe the plot is now “compromised” and would be “hard to bring forward.”
“We think we have a pretty good handle on the threat, but we’d know a lot more if Afzali hadn’t tipped them in the beginning,” ...
The source added that court papers released yesterday reveal only a “sliver” of the conspiracy.
“The FBI is investigating several individuals in the U.S., Pakistan and elsewhere, relating to a plot to detonate improvised explosive devices in the U.S.,” ... The FBI said Zazi admitted last week that Osama Bin Laden’s goons trained him in “weapons and explosives” last year at an Al Qaeda camp in Pakistan’s war-torn Pashtun tribal areas
Zazi, a Pashtun, used an e-mail address to send the images to himself under the alias “Kado Khan” - an 18th-century Afghan executed for plotting to kill a Pashtun tribal king.

Judge Orders Afghan Target Of Terror Probe To Stay In Custody
NPR ^ | September 21, 2009 | Frank James

A federal judge on Monday ordered Najibullah Zazi, the 24-year old Denver-area shuttle-bus driver at the center of a terrorism investigation, to be held at least until a detention hearing set for Thursday.
Meanwhile, his father Mohammed Zazi, 53, was ordered to be released on a $50,000 unsecured bond and placed on home confinement while wearing an electronic monitoring device.
The father and son of Aurora, Colo. were arrested Saturday evening by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and charged with lying to federal agents who were investigating a terrorism conspiracy, a federal crime.
The men were among a number of Afghan nationals kept under surveillance by FBI agents who suspected them of being part of a terrorist cell with the capability to make and explode bombs,.
According to what law enforcement sources have told NPR’s Dina Temple-Raston, among the FBI’s concerns was that the men were viewed by law enforcement authorities as the group most capable of carrying out terrorist attacks since 9/11.
Meanwhile, in New York City, another federal judge ordered Ahmad Wais Afzali, 37, an imam who authorities said had been in contact with the Zazis to be continue to be held.

“Najibullah Zazi and the New York/Colorado raids”
By DAVEED GARTENSTEIN-ROSS
September 21, 2009 11:09 PM
SNIPPET: “Over the weekend, three men were arrested and charged in the ongoing terror probe centered around New York and Colorado. The three men are Najibullah Zazi, 24, his father Mohammed Wali Zazi, 53, and Ahmad Wais Afzali, 37. Though all three were charged with making false statements to authorities, terrorism charges are likely to follow; authorities have said that the false statement charges are designed to keep them in custody while more serious charges are considered. At this point, there remain a large number of significant unanswered questions. However, I have spoken with a range of intelligence and law enforcement sources, and they believe that the combination of capabilities, desire to strike, and concrete steps taken likely make this the most serious terrorist plot on U.S. soil since 9/11. (The 2006 transatlantic air plot was more serious, and would have been devastating to the U.S., but planning occurred in Britain.) Some key highlights follow.”

SNIPPET: “NYPD investigators, in coordination with the FBI, hit chemical and fertilizer companies looking for customers who bought bulk and paid cash - and they were also showing up at storage centers in Long Island City.
Investigators believe they were going to use the units to mix chemicals for explosives.
“They’re full on, and still going full bore,” a counterterror official said of the bomb hunt.
The Department of Homeland Security at the same time has issued a nationwide bulletin asking cops to look at storage facilities.
“Operation Nexus” took on an extra urgency after raids on Queens apartments Zazi visited turned up knapsacks and cell phones. The exact targets are not known, but the find raised the specter of simultaneous blasts like the 2004 attack that killed 191 commuters in Spain.
ABC News reported that investigators believe that there were three teams of four terrorists involved in the planning.
A senior counterterror official told The News, however, that nobody knows for sure who else is out there - or whether the plot is disrupted.”

Zazi and his 53-year-old father, Mohammed Wali Zazi, were arrested Saturday in Denver. Ahmad Wais Afzali, 37, was arrested in New York, where he is an imam at a mosque in Queens. The three are accused of making false statements to the government. If convicted, they face eight years in prison.
On Monday, Najibullah Zazi answered the judge’s questions politely with a “Yes, honor” or “No, honor.”
Afzali was ordered held without bail after prosecutors said they believed he might flee if released. He smiled and blew kisses to his wife and other relatives before deputy marshals led him out of the courtroom.
His attorney, Ron Kuby, accused authorities of trying to make Afzali a scapegoat for a botched investigation. Kuby told reporters outside court that before Afzali’s arrest, authorities had begged him to help them in the Zazi investigation. He said his client knew he was being recorded, and never tried to mislead the FBI.
“They blew their own investigation and now they’re trying to blame my client,” he said.
