Yeah it is pretty unbelievable. So there is no national program to officially honor and recognize those who lost their lives and those who saved others on 9/11. Just this green the block crap?! Wow :(

This Friday, September 11th, its a block party nationwide as Americans come together to strengthen
and serve their communities in nearly 100 Green the Block events across the USA.
Green The Block is the new brainchild of “Green For All” and the “Hip Hop Caucus.” The two groups also partnered with President Obama’s “United We Serve” initiative for this National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11.
Green the Block is all about true grassroots organizing which is primarily done by schools, community groups and churches.

This event is initiated by Pulaski County Government in Little Rock, Arkansas. Pulaski County Brownfields Program will spearhead the adminstrative and organizational efforts along with the Pulaski County Community Services Department.
Numerous sponsors and partners will participate in a city wide recycling, trash pick-up and inner city neighborhood clean-up project. Local school districts in Pulaski County will participate along with radio stations and other non-profits.

The Mayor’s Litter Committee is hosting a tire recycling event from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on September 11, 2009. A limit of 5 tires per Peoria resident will be accepted free of charge in the park at Greenlawn Avenue and Ann Street on Peoria’s Southside. Identification verifying residence in the City of Peoria will be required. Tire collection dumpsters will be provided by Waste Management. Tire tossers are needed. This event is being held during National Green the Block initiative in conjunction with Green for All and the Hip Hop Caucus, which are initiatives to mobilize low-income communities and communities of color to ensure participation in the clean-energy economy. Green For All and The Hip Hop Caucus and are co-convening a diverse coalition of national and local organizations to support the principles of Green the Block, elevate successful local and city-wide green economy models, and build awareness and educate communities of color about the social, environmental and economic benefits of going green.
