A San Antonio police officer fatally shot a suspected robber outside of a Northeast Side gas station early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Julio Molinar, 19, died at 3:15 a.m. at Brooke Army Medical Center, where he was taken transported he was shot by a probationary officer in the parking lot of a Valero gas station in the 2300 block of Northeast Loop 410 at Starcrest Drive, according to a police department press release.
Officer Michael Ruiz, who graduated from the police academy five months ago, has been placed on administrative duty pending the shooting team's investigation of the incident, the release states.
Ruiz drove into the parking lot around 1 a.m., authorities said, and saw Molinar running out of the gas station holding a shotgun in one hand and cash in another.
A bandana covered part of Molinar's face, and, according to police, Ruiz believed he had just committed a robbery. He got out of his patrol car and ordered him to drop his weapon, and witnesses at the scene told police he refused to comply. He pointed his weapon at Ruiz, the release states, and Ruiz fired his duty weapon several times
Too bad he had to put down a punk so early in his career. But better the punk than the officer.
I guess the shotgun and the bandana would be pretty serious clues...
Sure would like to know why the perp was transported to a military medical facility. Is that a standard practice in SA, given the number of military and facilities in the area?
Why don’t they say the officer “allegedly” shot the alleged robber?
Just sayin....
One less punk in SATX.
Probably because they're the most experienced with treating gunshot wounds.
Actually BAMC is the best emergency trauma ER anywhere.
They coulda (and shoulda) walked the perp a quarter of a mile over to a Baptist hospital.
But they didn’t.
...who was alledgedly running from the scene clutching an alledged bundle of money in one hand, an alledged sawed off shotgun in the other hand wearing an alledged mask?
Don't you love how the media treats some folks gently and others not so much?
GMTA
I’d promote the rook.
Wouldn’t that be a “former, suspected (whatever)”?
I have no doubt BAMC would be a premier trauma center due to the experience/training of the staff. It may also be the closest for transport purposes. However, given the broken promises of the government to military retirees on “lifetime healthcare”, I question the use of the resource. How is the bill paid, except by taxpayers?
I would say it was a great start to his career, though I’m sure he’ll go through a period of self doubt and self questioning for a while. I would be worried if he didn’t!
You have an “alledged” point...one of the “alledged” witnesses may have “allegedly” fired the “alledged” killing projectile....”allegedly” a bullet!
We could have “alledged” fun with this all day!
“They coulda (and shoulda) walked the perp a quarter of a mile over to a Baptist hospital.”
Should have let him get over there on his knees...begging for forgiveness...
Why is he still a “suspected robber”? Don’t they know yet whether or not the Valero was robbed?
“Alleged” story alleged! Alleged details to follow.
You're right. All 911 call centers should employ commissars to address the political ramifications of emergency trauma care decisions. Sheesh....
Me and Julio...down by the graveyard...
