Analysis: Furor Over Speech Typifies Polarization
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS September 7, 2009
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The furor over President Barack Obama's start-of-school speech to the nation's students -- challenging them to work hard, earn good grades and stay in school -- typifies the country's widening rift over politics and social issues.
It's certainly an unwelcome distraction as the president prepares to address both houses of Congress and the nation Wednesday about his embattled attempt to overhaul the health care system, which has taken a hammering from Republicans and some middle-of-the-road Democrats.
Dating back to his campaign for president, some Obama opponents have tried to paint him as a ''socialist.'' Since winning the White House, the attacks have continued over his attempts to invigorate the tumbling economy with a $787 billion stimulus.
Far-right critics now charge that Obama would use his back-to-school remarks Tuesday to indoctrinate youngsters into his alleged ''socialist'' agenda.
Fox News Channel commentators Michelle Malkin and Glenn Beck have been prominent in attacking the speech. Florida Republican party chairman Jim Greer said he was ''absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's socialist ideology.''
Even Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, a moderate and potential presidential contender in 2012, said Obama's speech was ''uninvited'' and raises questions of content and motive.

If this is true, why does he used the word "I" 32 times in his screech? It's all about Barry.
What part of “I simply do not trust anything coming out of the Obamaloon’s letf wing mouth” does the MSM not understand?
Divisive? I certainly hope so.
And it’s gonna get worse if we don’t kick that Obama-hole back to Chicago where he can continue the democrat tradition of dead voting.
I don’t believe the people who wrote that are actually stupid enough to believe the speech wasn’t watered down in response to the complaints. It had friggin’ lesson plans with it to start.
He’s a marxist poser trying to gain favor in middle America...we don’t want a marxist community organizer near our kids. Simple.
After Governor Palins comments about the AP releasing the photo’s of the wounded soldier against the parents wishes, I wrote AP and told them I wouldn’t read anymore of their articles, and I sure don’t care what the NYTimes has to say!
The most radical thing Obama does in his speech is the end a sentence with a preposition.
However, I think our children will survive such an assault.
That was his plan from the start.
Why? Because he hates America and wants to weaken it.
But if a GOP says Macaca in a very joking manner its super polarizing. But its ok if a leftard is super polarizing.
20 USC 3403 - Sec. 3403. Relationship with States
The establishment of the Department of Education shall not increase the authority of the Federal Government over education or diminish the responsibility for education which is reserved to the States and the local school systems and other instrumentalities of the States. (b) Curriculum, administration, and personnel; library resources No provision of a program administered by the Secretary or by any other officer of the Department shall be construed to authorize the Secretary or any such officer to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over the curriculum, program of instruction, administration, or personnel of any educational institution, school, or school system, over any accrediting agency or association, or over the selection or content of library resources, textbooks, or other instructional materials by any educational institution or school system, except to the extent authorized by law.
I saw a post over at DailyKos where a teacher said she was going to ignore the principal (called him a mother..you know what) and make the kids do the lesson plan.
If President Obama thinks this is bad, it is nothing compared to what President Bush thru is his two terms in office. Grow a backbone.
LOL! I could have predicted this.
Typical slimes.

You know, a speech to encourage & uplift the children is one thing, but I still don’t believe its necessary during school hours...but that isn’t whats bothering me. What bothers me, is that there has been absolutely nothing about this potus that has been honest & above board. There was a man on F&F this morning that said that he does not consider Obama the kind of moral compass he wants his kids to learn from...& I agree whole heartedly. My first complaint was the paperwork that was to go along with the video...& then telling the instructors to have the kids read books about him, to find out who he is - I’m sure I don’t have to list all the crap for anyone here on the FR, but I’m sure as hell not letting my child believe that what this man has done is whole life is acceptable.
My daughter is staying home tomorrow!
Much as I hate to disagree, but the No Child Left Behind has language that supercedes the establishing act. That act is not like an article of the Constitution. As an act of Congress it can be superceded by a following act. As a teacher I have experienced federal mandates from NAEP exams, Title One requirements, and Title Nine gender equitable athletics.
Bull. The after speech lesson plan was designed to have students pledge loyalty personally to Obama, not to the Nation, "America".
This is SPIN. I wish someone would write the truth instead of cryng "polarization!"
AP is solidly on the side of Oba-Fascism.They are an enemy of America.
Just like the rest of the far-lefties, it appears the AP is “all wee wee’d up” over people protecting their children from socialist indocrination.
If that is all Obama wants to say then he can prerecord it and we can preview it before it's released to our children. Obama has proved to have world class horrifically bad judgment coupled with ill intent...I, for one, don't trust him. They can blame me for paying attention but if they were honest they'd have to blame Obama for being an untrustworthy liar.
