"The bombs the government drops in Iraq are the bombs that blew up in New York City," said Van Jones, director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, who also warned against forthcoming violence by the Bush Administration. "The US cannot bomb its way out of this one. Safety at home requires justice abroad."
Oakland, CA (September 13) - Hundreds of people gathered at Snow Park in Oakland tonight to mourn, provide support for each other, and speak out against violent United States policies at home and abroad, which they say are the underlying reasons for unprecedented terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington DC. Organizing against a growing climate of racism, nationalism and anti-Arab bigotry was a focus of the rally.
Organized by youth and people of color in Oakland and San Francisco, solidarity speakers included supporters of Palestine, people returning from the WCAR in South Africa, police brutality activists, anarchists and socialists, anti-gentrification activists and other people representing dozens of cultures and ethnicities. International solidarity was the theme as community and activist groups stood together against the threat of more US violence. Michael Franti of Spearhead also spoke, saying that "we need to be in a war against war."
In addition to an open mic, people at the rally talked with friends and strangers, cried, and began coming to terms with the events of the last three days. Many people who attended have family members still missing on the east coast. And many others have been the target of increased racism and discrimination during times of crisis in the United States, like the Oklahoma City bombing or Gulf War.
A recurring theme of the speakers was the brutal violence committed by or supported by the United States government on a daily basis.
In a diverse international community shocked by recent world events, deep feelings about the United States government were expressed. A young Puerto Rican person said that "the belly of the beast had something back to eat." A young Filipino human rights activist said that "when we found out what kind of place got hit, we were kind of glad to see the Pentagon burning. But we also know that thousands of Puerto Ricans, Haitians and other workers were in those buildings." An African-American man who works on gentrification issues in West Oakland said that "we're always seeing Americans drop bombs on people. We watch the Vietnamese get bombed, Iraqis get bombed, Palestinians get bombed, now it has come home to roost." Japanese-Americans spoke about internment camps and the nuclear holocaust brought on by US militarism.

From a report at Indybay.org Sept. 13, 2001.
So in essence Beck was entirely correct that Obama is at least a bigot [and] at worst a racistNot at worst.
Wow. Nice digging, kristinn.
Kind of makes it hard to claim those views on the 9/11 Truther site are not something he believed in...hahahahaha
The MSM is too preoccupied with painting a goatee and horns on all Sarah Palin photographs to be bothered with a little thing like this facist. They AGREE with him, remember?
We can’t.
We have to throw out every Democrat we can from office.
I don’t care if you like your local Blue Dog Democrat.
It doesn’t matter if your “guy” isn’t as bad as the others.
We must throw out all Democrats (and RINOs).
RINOs need to be taken out in the primaries.
And then Democrats taken out in the midterms.
Only a massive Republican wave will be able to stop 0bama’s vile agenda, much less remove him from office.
Thanks for this added fuel in the fire that is burning but so far not touching the Obamanation administration.
Jones must go...yet it is refreshing to see the truth behind the “greening” campaign finally being exposed as the communism that everyone who understands what has been going on has known for years.
Green is THE front for today’s communists.
And, yes, there is a natural alliance between the GREEN communists and the GREEN Jihadists....and in Obama we have both right there in OUR WHITE HOUSE!
God help this nation!
I’m still trying to figure that one out. Just doesn’t seem kosher for a White House official to bring a boycott against a citizen that is reporting the news about said White House official’s dirty dealing.
It’s time for him to go. Of all the ‘sane’ black folks in this country he had to choose a radical hoodlum that talks too damn much.
I know I live 'way out in the boonies -- but did I really miss it when America bombed the "Palestinians"?
Every one of these Czars should be investigated.
The Americans need to return to power in 2010, then maybe something can be done.
And on September 13, 2001 the most recent missile strikes on Iraq were ordered by Bill Clinton, not George Bush.
This Reverend Wright in a seat of power in Washington is not going to sit well with a populace as engaged as ours.
I’m expecting to hear next the Bill Ayers is advising the Messiah.
Retail businesses that are 'going green' sure get bitchy when you ask them why they support communism... :-)
What we have here is simple to understand. We have the New Black Panther party running the once most powerful nation on Earth. The Muslims are in the White House. This is truth. We will all be tested..
That is the tragedy, we can’t. Out in LaLa land we hope some dims will wake up and save our country. It is their country too.
COME ON 2010—FIRE THE BASTARDS.
Agree 100% — vote out every Dem including the Blue Dogs that elected Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. If they voted for her and they all did, they need to GO!
It is apartheid he is for, but not the way it has been in the past.
