If you weren't able to join us for the official Signature in the Cell book release party at the Seattle Art Museum, you can still watch author Stephen Meyer's presentation this weekend on C-SPAN2's BookTV:
Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design
About the Program
Stephen Meyer argues that our DNA provides evidence of an intelligent designer and helps explain how life began. He spoke at the Seattle Art Museum during an event hosted by the Discovery Institute.
Future Airings

* Sunday, September 6th at 7am (ET)
* Monday, September 7th at 12pm (ET)
* Tuesday, September 8th at 12am (ET)
Shoot! The Seattle Art Museum is visible from my office window... I wish I’d known.
Ping!
Wow, it never occurred to me that you live so close to the Discovery Institute! Sorry about that :o(
You can write books until you are blue in the face and ID still boils down to “I don’t know so Goddidit.”
It is is the ultimate cop-out and of zero scientific weight and heft.
You’re supposed to read the pages, not just parrot cult tantrums, ‘dumb.
That is just an Evo caricature. The book does an excellent job pointing out that the only known cause of complex, specified, digital codes (such as DNA) is intelligent design. As such, it is currently the best explanation for the origin of DNA.
No worries. :-)
Thanks for the ping!
How ironic. This leads us to the absurdity that if evolution is false but scientific and creation is true but unscientific. Then inorder to avoid the "cop-out" it is better to espouse a false belief that is scientific than a true doctrine that is unscientific.
I mean that TToE meets all criteria for science and ID/Creationism exactly zero.
ID cannot be applied to anything scientific. Understanding of TToE is the basis for most drug research, among other practical applications.
"Right" and "wrong" are philosophical concepts and I am more than happy to discuss ID/Creationism, creation legends, etc. in a philosophical (if somewhat sophomoric) context. But they do not belong in a scientific discussion.
Many laughed, some threw tomatoes.
Does this guy think the world is only six thousand years old?
If so, I'd have been a tomato tosser.
God is in the gaps. The trouble with this is that the gaps keep getting smaller and fewer. Who want a god that gets smaller and fewer?
You seem to worship "scientism". Why believe in a false doctrine just because it's scientific and reject a true doctrine because it is not.
Should we not expand our knowledge beyond the boundaries of science if it leads us closer to the truth?
sci·en·tism (sī'ən-tĭz'əm) n. The collection of attitudes and practices considered typical of scientists. The belief that the investigative methods of the physical sciences are applicable or justifiable in all fields of inquiry
Rather arrogant of you. I worship God. I understand science.
Should we not expand our knowledge beyond the boundaries of science if it leads us closer to the truth?
Yes we should. Just don't call it science. Call it philosophy or theology.
The belief that the investigative methods of the physical sciences are applicable or justifiable in all fields of inquiry
Re-read my prior post. Science doesn't explain everything. But do not conflate the non-science ideas such as ID and Creationism with science.
I post on these threads from time to time to let the world at large know there are Christian Conservatives who know the difference.
DI’s agenda is to get acceptance of ID as an “alternate theory” and to use it as the camel’s nose under the tent to then get Creationism (including and especially Young Earth Creationism) as yet another “alternate theory.”
Sadly, these so-called “Christians” are using one of two devices:
1) They know what a Scientific Theory is and are prevaricating despite its very clear definition (bearing false witness); or
2) They do NOT know what a Scientific Theory is and are willfully ignoring the definition even when presented with it (also bearing false witness).
Reading the Bible doesn’t make one a Christian. It is what you DO that determines that.
FWIIW, I got a time-out for posting something similar a few years ago.
The study of ultimate origins includes many spheres of study. Both scientific, philosophical, theological etc. They may at times overlap where lines become blurred and cause conflict. But that's life.
Thanks for the heads-up.
I just think it epitomizes the quackery of the young-earth ideal.
