Unfortunately, the Republicans are of little help with central and South American problems, because they have a longstanding cabal of nuts who control their policy in that region. They have controlled that part of Republican foreign policy since Reagan and likely before, and they only let in their friends, and exclude anyone not in their clique.
Though they are very right wing, they are also incompetent. They tried two CIA backed efforts against Chavez, which were executed so woefully bad that they turned into embarrassing disasters.
They also have the bad habit of bending the rules too much, and still not producing results. Since the Democrats are utterly incapable of conducting *any* sound foreign policy, this has left central and South America in the lurch for decades.

How can we support this? I feel so helpless. Talk about a world apology tour. The U.S. has now got a LOT of apologizing to do once were rid of the fungus Obama. Bush would have the CIA in action supporting this.
Hopefully Venezuela gets rid of Chavez on its own. It's best for each nation to exorcize its own demons, meddling in other nations' affairs often comes back to bite one in the ass. After all, Ho Chi Minh once worked for the CIA, too.

Great! Let’s hope they are successful.

You’re crazy if you think it’s anywhere near “huge” for Venezuela.

I know you're right. But it never hurts to know that a country as powerful as the U.S. (used to be?) believes in your cause. Never hurts to know you've got friends. Right now we're masquerading as their enemy.

How long before Obama sends U.S. troops to help Chavez regain order? Gonna need to see a birth certificate first.

Wow. I'm almost speechless... that's the end game. If Obama stays in power here for much longer, I'd expect him to agitate for wealth taxes, but not the direct personal 100% approach. At least not for a while. I've been warning all my family and friends . . . . keep track of your FICA withholdings and make sure that you end up with -0- refund, even if you have to pay a little next 4/15. Im expecting Obummer to announce a fiscal crisis next spring and keep everyones refund to help keep the gubmint running.
You can claim as many dependents as you want, so you can easily adjust the amount of FICA withholding.
Im also surprised that no one is aware that the so-called tax cut Obambi said he gave us last spring was simply a change in the rate of withholding, not a real tax cut. You are simply taking more home with each paycheck you will still have to pay the same amount of tax, so that big refund you expect every spring will be a lot smaller or nonexistent. You also should know that whatever you received for your clunker is also going to be taxable income.
Surprise, surprise, surprise!

I think it’s too late for the people of Venezuela.
They should have done this YEARS ago.
Now they’ll just be shot and arrested...

I was referring to this attempt at intervention, not Chavez, and hoping there were other instances: http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/05/bush_authorizes.html

It’s likely there will be casualties and Yup, this is one battle that should have been fought years ago.. but soon, the military will have to choose sides and the direction they want this country to head.
