President Obama has met with the pope, the queen of England and will address both houses of Congress next week.
But his efforts to get an audience with American schoolchildren for a pep talk are falling flat.
An Obama speech to students about academic success, to be broadcast over cable television, radio and the Internet on Tuesday, won't reach many Tarrant County students.
Most Tarrant County school districts will not make it mandatory viewing for students. Many districts say they don't have the technology to provide it. Others will give parents the opportunity to have their children skip it if teachers show it in class.
For many districts, the 11 a.m. speech conflicts with lunch and curriculum plans so administrators are opting against live showings. Many districts are recording the 15-to-20-minute speech for teachers who want to use it in class later or will post a link on their Web sites for students and parents to access.
The 63,500 students in Arlington schools won't be watching the address live. The district will post an Internet link to the speech and provide a recording for teachers.
Arlington Superintendent Jerry McCullough said the district didn't hear about the address until Wednesday around noon. Administrators decided it was best not to interrupt the regularly scheduled lesson plans and activities.
"We just decided that with our technology we can access it and use it later as an instructional resource," he said, adding that such use would have to be "appropriate to the district's curriculum."
Some parents have objected to the address, seeing it as an attempt to inject politics into the schools. Some families plan to keep their children home. The U.S. Education Department said Obama's speech will focus on goal-setting and working hard in school, not policy matters.(continued)

I read in another article, some schools will ‘exempt’ or ‘opt out’ students because they want them to attend school, BECAUSE FUNDING IS DETERMINED BY ATTENDANCE PER DAY!!!

If Obama didn’t have his own cult and wasn’t pushing Marxist Totalitarianism on the public in the form of Cap and Trade and Deathcare and wasn’t associated with the likes of Van Jones and all his other Orwelian ‘Czars’ and actually respected and admired this country instead of apologizing to every country in the world for everything we do, and came across as having some neutrality once in awhile, I don’t think people would have had a problem with this little speech, but alas, the sheeple have caught on and don’t trust him.
He has worn his mandate out so quickly and thinly, he can’t be trusted to tell kids to stay in school and off drugs.

I remember, circa 1962, being herded into a gym with the entire school for hours to watch the first couple space flights on a little B/W TV on stage.
As well they should. If the Obama Administration had their way, we'd be having Orwell's "two minutes of hate" for the previous administration and a host of other behaviors concocted by his team of malignant anti-patriots. I believe that we can live without having our children brought into this circle of anti-Americanism and raise them to be the good citizens that they deserve to be without Obama's interference.

How many federal laws were violated by the White House in this harebrained stunt?
Did they request permission from the various state Superintendents of Education? I doubt it. It seems they went right over the heads of the education boards and directly to the principals.
Also, since when are our schoolchildren required to “do something” for the president? That would be their assignment, if a teacher somewhere decided to implement the Dept. of Education classroom ideas that were sent out. This whole thing reeks!

It’s not going over so well here in the Phoenix area. One school district is having parents sign a permission slip and another is not showing it at all.

Back in the 1980’s, Senator Orrin Hatch authored the Hatch Amendment which outlined parents rights. Here is an old sample letter that was a model for parents to use to remove their children from objectionable material. The upcoming propaganda from Zero should qualify as objectionable to many American parents.

The original “Model Hatch Amendment Letter,” crafted by Senator Orrin Hatch’s (R. Utah) office, was sent to Family Friendly Libraries by a dedicated New York mom who heard it on a “Turning Point” program by Dr. David Jeremiah. Another wise mom from Michigan has since used it with some additions that we believe are helpful, particularly when you still have some definite positive connections with your child’s school and want to keep those positives going. The result is an alternative letter which retains its strong parental rights message while encouraging good relationships that exist to continue. Feel free to use either model or adapt it to your own situation even further. Let us know what is happening in this parental rights arena, please.

Psychological and psychiatric treatment or adult and peer counseling that is designed to affect behavioral, emotional or attitudinal characteristics of an individual or designated to elicit information about attitudes, habits, traits, opinions, beliefs, or feelings of an individual or group.
The purpose of this letter is to preserve our child’s rights under the pupil’s rights amendment, the Hatch Amendment to the General Education Act, and under its regulation, as published in the Federal Register on September 6, 1984, which became effective November 12, 1984. These regulations provide a procedure for filing complaints first at the local level and then with the U.S. Department of Education. If a voluntary remedy fails, federal funds can be withdrawn from those in violation of the law.
We respectfully ask you to send us a substantive response to this letter, attaching a copy of your policy statement on procedures for parental permission requirements. We also ask that you notify all of our child’s teachers with a copy of this letter and keep a copy of this letter in our child’s file.
Our purpose and intent is to work cooperatively with the schools in congenial and positive attitudes and actions, with our child’s best interest in mind. We fully support your efforts to provide excellent education within our community and for our child, and we are grateful for each teacher and administrator’s dedication to our child’s success within school.
Please feel free to call us with any questions at any time during the course of the year. Again, we thank you for your cooperation and excellent efforts in providing for the education of our child.
