My 15 and 12 year old daughters attend public school. They are well versed in conservatism and understand the difference between right and wrong (conservatives vs. Obama administration). I called my daughters school about the Obama speech. They said they were recording it and are giving the kids the option to see it the following Friday. To me, its a testament to how the school views this administration. On the other hand, Im finding it difficult to remove my kids from school for the day because it puts them in an awkward position. Not because they're friends are Obama fans. But because a protest based on just 2 kids wouldn't accomplish much except for my kids to get a day behind in studies.
I think they’re both old enough to have some input on whether they will attend, especially your 15 year old.
Why not have them bring a book and they can ignore Obama and read during the video instead. Give em a copy of “Poor Richard’s Almanac” or maybe print out Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense.”
To do otherwise is tacit approval of Barry Falsewitness's indoctrination of public school kids into ACORN.
Could you schedule a dentist or doctor appointment at that time?
I think each parent should decide what is best for their own children.
I've seen some of the Test that accompanies the speech, and it's "help and praise Obama"--
If a president sends a speech to a school, it should only be about encouraging the student to work hard and take advantage of opportunities. Like a "Dad" speech would be.
But from what I've seen, it'd be more likely to be "go home and tell your parents to support health care reform, and send me their names if they won't."
Perhaps they could get a copy of his speech (released a day ahead, usually), arm themselves with facts, and educate their classroom.
I hope my kids stand up and boo when he comes on. None of them have a positive opinion of Hussein. We may also consider just keeping them home that day.
The fact that your kid’s school is NOT participating in the live broadcast, and then giving kids (and their parents) the option of seeing it on Friday is a testament to your choice in schools. You can delay the decision until after next Tuesday when you know what the speech is.
To all Freepers and parents... I believe that we should send emails, calls, etc. to the White House and ask for advance copies of the speech so that we can discuss it with our kids. I don’t know about you, but I cannot take the time off work to watch it live.
My opinion: send them to school anyway. Yes, I dislike the character of the whole thing, but there’s little that can be done in a single day. Perhaps arrage with your teachers to audit the classes that day. Keeping them out of school, I think, is not really a good choice.
Call the school and tell them that you are not going to allow Obama to indoctrinate them outside your presence. If they tell you they are going to broadcast his speech, then tell them they can do without your children for a day.
These schools get funding based upon attendance and when attendance is down, funding goes down.
Hit 'em where it hurts.
“My 15 and 12 year old daughters attend public school.”
My deepest and sincere condolences.
You are not alone.
Pull them out on Friday — especially if the school is making it optional.
I never believe in isolating from issues like this, instead, use it as a teaching moment and discuss with them what they took from it and, depending on what actually is said, how people use speech to control and manipulate others. It could be an object lesson in critical thinking.
I agree that they should go to school, but the book they should bring to read is the Naked Communist.
Doing the right thing is often difficult and does not make friends.
My wife called the school about this. Principle said the schedule was just “too busy” to include this event. Thank God we live in a conservative area. I was thinking of sending my son that day wearing the Joker poster tee shirt.
If school districts lose the state attendance money on a number of students because their parents keep them home, they will really howl, and they will let BO and his Leftist Sec. of Ed Duncan know that they can forget this stunt in the future.
