Did American Idol Help Barack Obama Get Elected?
Is Barack Obama the Taylor Hicks of the US Presidency? Remember Hicks? He was the gray-haired, good natured singer who shockingly beat out the likes of Chris Daughtry, Elliot Yamin and Katherine McPhee to win the American Idol crown. After Hicks won, did the millions of people who voted for him, run out and buy his album? Nope. HIs album was a complete flop and his recording career never took off.
Every seasons, millions of American Idol viewers vote over and over for contestants they have no intention of spending money on once the show is over (remember how long the untalented Sanjaya Malakar lasted?) They simply want their favorite to win the contest and nothing more.
The same thing may be true of millions of Obama voters, especially Independents. Did they actually want him to be the President or did they just want him to win the election? It's a distinct possibility the latter is true.
In the weeks leading up to the election, I saw dozens of people wearing Obama t-shirts. Perfect strangers were giving each other a thumbs up as they walked by, Since the election ended, those t-shirts have virtually disappeared.
Is it possible that American Idol has dumbed down the electorate into treating the Presidential Election like a popularity contest? Just consider how quickly the excitement surrounding Obama faded, especially among independent voters. Did these voters actually want this man to be their Commander-in-Chief, or did they want him to win "President Idol."
One has to wonder if the "American Idol" mentality helped Obama win the election.
Wow, did you think this up all by yourself?
Celebrity in Chief? Not so cute any more, is he?
Just wrote it off the top of my head. But I think others may have called him the American Idol president. Not sure though.
They thought they were purchasing
“Racial Guilt Assuagement”.
They got ripped off.

3- Ophra-ized voters. Yes, we have become American Idol and Survivor! as a nation. With the worst features of both shows.
A lot of people who should not have been voting and WOULD not have been allowed to vote under the rules set up when the nation was founded, voted for Obama.
We have allowed the nation to be taken over by people who imagine that because they live in a technologically advanced time and benefit from science that was unimagined in Ben Franklin’s day that they somehow possess wisdom far greater than the founders possessed. It is a stupid conceit and we all will pay the price. We ignore the wisdom of the founders at our own peril, it is precisely BECAUSE they lived in a different age that they had an understanding of human nature and its pitfalls that few possess today.
And at no time did the name “Ruben Studdard” pop into your head?
I’ve been calling him the American Idol President for ages. I believe this theory has merit. So many voted for him because it was the thing to do...
I don’t think American Idol is responsible for the dumbing down of America. You could argue it is a result of it, but not the cause.
Obama wasn’t elected to “do”. He was elected to “be”. People wanted someone to be the first African-American president. That mission was fulfilled one nanosecond after inauguration. Now he’s just killing time. And the economy. And possibly us.
I did think of him, but Hicks was an even greater flop than Studdard. But Ruben is another great example.
That isn't really funny yet I'm ROTF. Quote of the day.
Maybe, but I think that the bigger problem is that the public was misinformed by the media and really didn’t know what they were voting for. The media let him get away with portraying himself as a moderate.
Now that they’re seeing the truth and that this guy is FAR left, they don’t like it.
And dont forget William Huang,,, and his talents....
Zero's problem now is that the moderates are starting to pay more attention to what he is actually doing and ignoring much of what he is saying. The liberals are still on board of course, but the rest are still living their empty lives and have gotten over the short buzz they got from electing the Zero, and have moved on to the next quick popular thing.
Yes. A nice popularity contest, idol style, as some of us noticed.
Text now - #1 for ...
We are created with the desire to be relevant, to “matter”.
God intended us to seek relevance in our relationship with Him,
but those who reject that relationship seek to fill it with SOMETHING.
And that’s what we’re seeing.
Their lives are still empty, like Solomon in Ecclesiastes, where he attempted to fulfill his life without a relationship to God.
Ryan Seacrest: “America voted, Obama, you are the President Idol!”
Exactly!
