"A Plane was damaged while landing at Nellis AFB Friday, causing the plane to catch fire and forcing its 32- member crew to escape..."

The plane looks like a total loss to me.
Photos are on the net, but I can't get to them from this computer
No big deal. Under the upcoming provisions of “One Air Force, One Airplane,” this bird was set to be retired and replaced by a single “superplane” that performs all tactical and strategic requirements of the Air Force and will be centrally controlled from one point in the continental United States.
Well, any landing you walk away from is a good landing.;)
Lemme guess, one of the space aliens from Area 51 tried to land vertical?.................
Are you talking about the E-10 (I think they are still calling it that) project to combine JSTARS and AWACS or were you being sacastic?
The E-10 program seems to have gone from the initial stages of proto-type development to pipe dream. I hear the current E-3s and E-8s are to be operational long into the future.
If the program is back on line I would be interested in it.
Regardless, this is a pretty big deal for my buddies still flying it.
32 crew members ?
I think he was being sarcastic, forgot the /s. Maybe talking about the Obama mothership?
Radar operators and such, mostly.
The E-3 is getting old along with many other USAF aircraft. Somehow I doubt the current administration is going to do much about it. Trillions upon trillions for unions, green energy, etc., but only a pittance for national defense. That’s the Democrat way.
A good landing, but not a great landing.
A great landing is one after which you can use the airplane again.
AWAC -— Airborne Without A Clue
Looks like it can be fixed. It won’t be inexpensive to repair, but the damage seems isolated to the cockpit and nose gear. Oooops. Forgive my political incorrectness. Make that the flight deck and nose gear. We don’t have cockpits any more.
AWACS: America’s War Against Common Sense.
No, I was just being sarcastic, referring to that idiotic "one Air Force, one Network" IT policy they've been working on for the past ten years or so.
Why the hard words from you and Tubebender? True the system has been around a long time but is still used in virtually every contingency.
Believe me, I’ve earned the right to joke about the E-3. She’s old bird, but I love her. Let’s just say we’ve been intimate for a long, long time.
She was much newer when I was Vice-Commander of Elf-One in Riyadh, SA during the Iran-Iraq war.
I just hate it when I’m forced to escape.
That’s good news. I’d heard it burned.
