Last Saturday, Max, a terrier-cross from Louisiana, celebrated his 26th birthday with a special party hosted by his owner, Janelle Derouen. Max, who is 182 in canine years, is believed to be the oldest dog in the world (pending confirmation by Guinness World Records, currently verifying his veterinary birth certificate).

I’ve heard of a cat that made 35 or 36. Weirdest looking animal. It was a hairless Sphynx. Many people mistook it for a dog.

My first doberman lived to 14.5 years and he also had a birth certificate.
Max may live to be 200, but we will be lucky to reach 70 if the other dog has his day.

I expected to see one ugly dog but he is still so cute....it is that terrier gene that is keeping him going.....

If you would like another dog, check online for shelter dogs. About 2 years ago we had to put down my granparent’s dog, Lady. Gorgeous dog, she was a chow/german shepherd/ wolf mix, gorgeous dog, and super-smart too. She was a shelter dog, and large dogs are especially hard to find homes for.
Did they get DNA on him when he was a puppy and check it with this dog now? Maybe the original dog died and this one took its place pretending to be the original.

Very cool! It’s great to see a dog living into his 20’s. I wish I had been so lucky with mine.
She did everything with the kids - sled riding, hide & seek & minded better than the kids!!

His adoption, plus nuetering cost $80. The affection, priceless. We have had him for three years. Our previous dog was 14 1/2 (also from a shelter) when she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
