The Club says the effort is part of a $1.2 million campaign battling the current healthcare proposals. But the effort focuses on the Bennett-Wyden proposal, and the targets of the letters are notable because of the electoral situation Bennett finds himself in.
Bennett is facing a primary challenge from state Attorney General Mark Shurtleff (R). Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) has also said he might challenge the longtime senator in the primary.
Club Executive Director David Keating said in a statement that the organization is in the "preliminary stages" of looking at the Utah Senate race.
Sen. Bennetts support for a health care plan that massively increases government control and taxes is definitely a major factor in our decision to look at alternatives, whether it be Attorney General Shurtleff, Congressman Chaffetz or someone else," Keating said.

Have a lot of respect for Club for Growth who helped Dr. Coburn when the GOP powers cut off his fundraising because he took on their candidate in the primary and WON.
We don’t need to run RINO’s in a safely Republican state. Bennett should have retired last time. If conservatives play their cards right, Bennett won’t even make it out of the party convention and on to the primary ballot.
An incumbent Republican in Utah was primaried and got beat by a conservative challenger (Chaffetz) last year.
Bennett would be tougher to beat since there will be less people willing to go after him, but it could happen.
This time around, RINOs have to be weeded out and dumped during the primaries. No more half-baked Libs posing as Republicans. We’re in too much doo doo to screw up now.
The same Shurtleff who **IGNORED** Obama’s inelligibility!!!
The problem is Shurtleff is pro-illegals the last I heard.
Chaffetz I would support.
Both Bennett and Shurtleff are unacceptable. It would be ballsy of Chaffetz to make such a jump, but if he sees an opening, why not go for it ?
Interesting. I wonder if DeMint’s group would endorse Chaffetz over a sitting incumbent Republican?
Pondering how to answer that, but Senators are often very reluctant to endorse candidates to take out incumbents of the same party. It’s like kicking out a member of your exclusive club. As bad as Bennett is, Hatch is worse and he has gone well past his expiration date (which was probably in 1982, his first 6 years).
It seems like we have a number of real opportunities to take RINO seats and fill them with better conservatives next year... Toomey in PA, Portman in OH, someone (who?) in TX... perhaps even Rubio in FL and Chaffetz if this shapes up.
Michael Williams in TX. Statewide officeholder (Chairman of the TX RR Commission) and articulate Black Conservative.

It’s important to know the way Utah chooses its nominees. If no candidate gets 60% if the delagates, the top two finishers are put on the primary ballot. So, if conservatives play their cards very, very shrewdly, we could reduce Bennett to a third-place finish and guarantee a more conservative nominee that way. That’s a difficult task, but not impossible.
Williamson is Texas
