Two years ago, I interviewed Vaclav Smil, the prolific author and energy thinker. I asked Smil, a distinguished professor at the University of Manitoba, why Americans are so easily swayed by politicians and others when it comes to energy matters. His response: scientific illiteracy and innumeracy.

The American people are going to find out what it’s like to be cold in the winter. Simple statement, but true.
The first gripe I had about Rush Limbaugh was how often he mangled the science and seemed proud of his illiteracy. Many FReepers are the same way :-(
We can put windmills on top of our cars, and the air will power them! There are all sorts of green energy solutions, if only those evil capitalists would let us have the answers! /s

28% sounds a little high to me considering how easily Americans are duped by the MSM and an idiot like Algore.
Not to mention the total lack of scientific understanding by O'Reilly.
While I don’t consider myself illiterate, I will admit that there is much I don’t know about energy. For instance, my husband recently took a tour of the Grand Coulee dam in WA state, where the docent told him that the dam was capable of providing electricity for most of the West coast, but the power goes unused. She said that Puget Power buys the power from just one turbine, but there is much more available.
So, why are we worrying about alternative energy, when we have more readily available power than we need?
Why don't you expand on that Ace and give a few examples. Probably should zip up your little flame retardant suit as well.
The riotous thing here is that the scientist geeks ALWAYS blame creationism. If only there weren’t a pesky God on their minds, people would be kneeling at the altar of science and the common man would be an expert on rocketry and globull warming.
In the meantime the liberal creationless skewls that fail to teach the kiddies what things like molecules are, escape any accountability. Homeschooled kids always know far more about actual science.
So, the commie-dem NEA agenda to dumb down the middle class into the lower class has worked, eh? I never could understand how liberal university professors could preach this crap, but its not because it is true, it’s because they want to indoctrinate.
OK, explain the “science” to me, please.
Be forewarned, I work in the electric biz...
On July 29th of this year, Puget Power used a little more than half of Grand Coulee’s installed generating capacity of 6809 MW.
In comparison, Duke Energy’s Bad Creek Hydroelectric Station on the SC-NC border is a 1,065-megawatt pumped-storage facility which uses surplus power from the Oconee nuclear plant (three reactors) to pump water from Lake Jocassee up 1000 feet+ into the Bad Creek reservoir. Then during the times of peak demand later in the day, the water runs back through the turbine pumps generating 330MW per turbine (at full pond) for each of the four turbines.
I don’t see those literate, numerate Europeans doing much better when it comes to energy policy. Ditto Canadians, et al.
The general dumbing down is what happens when you have scientists who could teach school, who know the subject extremely well, but have not had all the required coursework in upper-level babysitting and social programming required to get a teaching certificate (so they cannot legally teach for pay). OTOH, those who have degrees in "education" spent their semester hours getting educated to educate, not necessarily learning the material to teach.
Still, making our children less capable has been a Communist goal for a long time, because the ignorant are more maleable.
Logically, you are quite right. The issue of energy sufficiency can be covered thoroughly without impinging on creation/evolution discussions. But our eminent Canadian professor tosses in the “biology” angle just the same, just to be sure we don’t forget that “real scientists” dictate the whole shootin’ match.
The riotous thing here is that the scientist geeks ALWAYS blame creationism. What planet are YOU on? Geesh ...
The only planet with chocolate.
Most libertarians are for open and free energy policy
