Union Official Becomes N.Y. Fed Chairman
Economic Policy Journal ^ | 8/24/09 | Robert Wenzel

Posted on 08/24/2009 12:16:58 PM PDT by FromLori

Well it's not a ACORN, but pretty damn close, the Obama influence is clear with this choice.

A top labor union leader, Denis Hughes, has become the chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Board of Directors. The New York Fed’s board comprises nine members, and is set up to reflect banking and community interests. Hughes has been on the board since 2003, but a union leader as New York Fed Chairman?

Hughes is president of the 2.5 million member New York State AFL-CIO.

According to the New York state AFL-CIO site: As President of the New York State AFL-CIO, Mr. Hughes has made creating a more mobile, active and aggressive statewide labor movement a top priority. He has set a tone for organizing new members into the movement and has led the way in developing proactive legislative and political statewide strategy. Hughes clearly doesn't understand basic supply and demand economics, since he "has been successful in helping to pass historic legislation that provides farm workers a minimum wage equal to that of all other workers in the state."

Almost any economist will tell you that minimum wage laws lead to only one thing, greater unemployment.

This guy is a total union hack. Here's more from the NYS AFL_CIO site:

Following up on his commitment to grow the labor movement and organize new members, President Hughes led a successful legislative effort to secure unprecedented labor protections and organizing rights for workers who work at casino gaming facilities in this state.

In addition, historic “card check” legislation was passed that recognizes union designation by showing a majority interest through card check. And this must make Obama's mouth water:

Hughes led the way for New York State to become the first state in the country to adopt and implement the New Alliance. This historic restructuring initiative consolidates the economic, political and legislative force of the labor movement. The New Alliance allows the labor movement to better utilize its resources in order to secure progressive legislation and help labor supported candidates gain victory on Election Day.

it’s a good thing everything melted down before this latest bit of hair-brained audacity, ‘cause nothing would have been fixed if he was strutting around when it did.

Hey, give the guy a break.

Consider his creds.

We all know the Unions, incuding the AFL-CIO, are owned by the Mafia. The commie thing is just a front for the suckers who pay the dues thinking they’re going to get an even shake.

This goon probably has lots of expertise in money laundering (”international finance”), extortion (”insurance”), loan sharking (”savings and loans”), and organizing (”business administration”).

How could a thug be more qualified than that to run the Fed?

Just think of how the Mafia bosses are laughing now that they have their own “legit” money printing business.

They’ll be able to print counterfeit money legally.

Now the unions control the NY Fed. Do we need any more proof that we have become the most socialist country on the face of the earth?

Here’s a report about another Union thug getting a big promotion.

Obama’s Union Car Czar Gets Big Promotion

Ron Bloom, the former United Steelworkers (USW) union bigwig appointed by President Barack Obama as “car czar” earlier this year is now poised to oversee ALL American manufacturing.

That’s right, a union boss whose forced unionism dogma destroys jobs, crushes employee free choice, and cripples the country’s competitiveness will soon be in charge of America’s entire industrial policy.

Bloom’s appointment and pending promotion are just pieces in the pattern of Obama’s shameless payback to the union bosses who got him elected.

What’s so troubling about Bloom’s ascendancy is the obvious connection between forced unionism and the debacle of General Motors and Chrysler in Detroit.

After the United Auto Workers (UAW) union bosses systematically crippled Detroit for decades with asinine and wasteful work rules and stifling union monopoly contracts that made it virtually impossible for America’s automotive industry to compete, the Obama Administration turned around and rewarded these UAW bosses with substantial ownership in the automakers they destroyed.

The appointment of Bloom suggests President Obama wants to impose Detroit’s catastrophic forced unionism model on all American manufacturing workers.

Read more about Bloom’s expected promotion on the National Right to Work Foundation’s blog. http://www.nrtw.org/en/blog/union-car-czar-poised-dictate-manufacturing-p08212009
