2010 SENATE CAMPAIGN: Polls show potential GOP challengers would beat Harry Reid
Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | August 23, 2009 | By BENJAMIN SPILLMAN

It's the highest stakes ever for a Nevada election, and former boxer Sen. Harry Reid is on the ropes early. Either Republican Danny Tarkanian or Sue Lowden would knock out Reid in a general election, according to a recent poll of Nevada voters.

The results suggest the Democratic Senate majority leader will have to punch hard and often in order to retain his position as the most accomplished politician in state history, in terms of job status.

Nevadans favored Tarkanian over Reid 49 percent to 38 percent and Lowden over Reid 45 percent to 40 percent, according to the poll.

Reid's status makes him an icon of the Democratic Party and ties him to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and President Barack Obama, both of whom are losing ground among centrist and right-leaning voters in the country.

Winning "becomes more difficult when you are actually the one having to carry the water for the president," said Richard Davis, a professor of political science at Brigham Young University in Utah. "He (Reid) has got to get something out of the Obama administration that he can claim as his own."

But with the election more than a year away, Reid has plenty of time to attract more supporters to his corner.

Between now and November, 2010, Reid will attempt to show voters he can deliver lower health care costs and new jobs to Nevada, which has an unemployment rate pushing 13 percent.

"He fights for Nevada on those issues and others every day and he'll continue that battle to get our economy back on track," Reid spokesman Jon Summers said.

Reid also will remind voters, and influential fundraisers, that his in-state connections and national clout can pay dividends for all of Nevada.

"He (Reid) has got to get something out of the Obama administration that he can claim as his own."

Mass resignations would be a great start.

Reid's ONLY chance is to call on the President to shelve Cap n Tax and Healthcare reform.

The Unions that dominate the strip have lost thousands of members...and Dingy Harry is dangling by a thread. Without a HARD BREAK from the President, he's toast.

If you have not seen this, please do, it shows what a complete idiot Reid is.

Reid maintains redistributive taxes are not a problem because people are not forced to pay taxes. He says taxation is voluntary???. How and why does ...

I would think the Tarkanian name is still pretty popular in Nevada and in the Vegas area. Isn’t it usually that the GOP does great in the rural parts and the dems clean up in Vegas and Clark Co? If Tark can do anything in Clark Co he should be in good shape. Maybe he’ll even campaign with a towel on his shoulder.

“I would love to get rid of Bonnie Fwanks, Reid and the Haggsta Pelosi”

Now, right there is some hope and change I can believe in!

Are both potential GOP candidates RINOs? Jeez! When will this trend ever end, if it really does ever end?! RINOs will end up officially killing off the entire GOP!

Harry Reid is the sacrificial lamb for Obama and Pelosi as long as they get Obamacare and their other destructive policies signed into law. Bank on it.

Agreed. There's not an individual on this earth....including top RATS...that Hussein wouldn't throw under the bus to get what he wants. He's proven time and time again over his (*very*) short career that he'd have his own mother turning tricks if it suited his purposes.

Even if Reid were to lose, it would mean nothing, for there are over a dozen socialists waiting to take his place. Such is the state we are in today.

Until ACORN comes to the rescue.

Which is why people in every state need to be working NOW for the 2010 elections. Volunteer to help with voter registration, question the process for absentee ballots, voter ID at the ballot box.

If we're ever going to stop them America, it needs to be now!

TAKE HEED OBAMATONS, THE TIDE IS TURNING.

A TIDAL WAVE IS SWEEPING DEMS FROM OFFICE

A Delaware State Senate seat——reliably Democrat for forty years in a heavily Dem district-——was just won by a Republican by an unbelievable thirty (yep,
that’s thirty) percentage points.

....it was an amazing feat he pulled off by taking the Clintons out of the spotlight and burying them in the netherworld.

And you can see it in Hillary's face every time she appears on TV. She knows she's been had and it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Bill wasn't in on it, too. He doesn't want to be upstaged by Hillary. Notice how it was Bill that got the glory in NK? There's some kind of deal between Obamalamadingdong and Slick to marginalize Hillary. I'd bet on it.

Sabato was on Hugh Hewitt last night...

It is beginning to look like the GOP could have some serious pick ups in the Senate.

The following seats, Dodd CT, Reid NV, Specter PA, and Corzine NY. One other in the mid-atlantic.

Can you think of any others???
