California's financial unraveling has prompted a long-overdue debate about taxes, regulation, and government spending, but the state's media and government continue to ignore what could be an even greater problem: the irreparable damage to California's human capital that nearly 30 years of unrestrained illegal immigration has achieved.
This is not an immigration problem, or even an illegal-immigration problem, per se. A strong case could be made that, in terms of educational achievement, industriousness, and entrepreneurial acumen, Asian immigrants to California have proven superior to white natives of the state. Therefore, if California were to experience a wave of mass immigration from Asia, its long-term economic prospects would be improved. Today's Hispanic immigrants would probably have the same effect if they came from the top 10 to 20 percent of their society -- according to those same measures of human capital -- rather than from its bottom rungs. But the influx has instead been composed mainly of the poorly educated, the unskilled, and the illiterate. Such immigrants will likely soon dominate the state's overall population and politics.
In 2005, the California K-12 school system was 48.5 percent Hispanic, compared with 30.9 percent white. By now it is above 50 percent Hispanic. Two-thirds of kindergarten students were Hispanic, most of them unable to speak English.
For a closer glimpse of what's in store for California, look at the Los Angeles Unified School District, the largest in California and the second largest in the country. Of its roughly 700,000 students, almost three-quarters are Hispanic, 8.9 percent are white, and 11.2 percent are black. More than half of the Latino students (about 300,000) are "English learners" and, depending on whether you believe the district or independent scholars, anywhere between a third and a half drop out of high school ...

Not so. They are good Libertarians who believe in the "sanctity" of markets, not borders, as do many Libertarian RINOs and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Just because conservatives and the Libertarians at the WSJ editorial page may have some things in common, Libertarians are NOT conservatives. Failure to understand that causes conservatives to frequently misplace their trust. CATO is pure Libertarian and takes many positions completely at odds with conservatives (at least as I define the term).
Many neocons like Bennett and the late Jack Kemp also fit into the Libertarian mold on immigration and a few other issues. There are many who have betrayed American principles through allowing almost unchecked illegal immigration. But if you've read the whole thread you'll remember my posts were aimed at placing most of the blame at the Federal level, not at Californians. All the people you mention are definitely Federal-level players.
I totally agree.
Beautiful
No doubt.
You are so welcome to it.

Agreed! The sad thing is they’re considered by the ‘experts’ & Media as ‘conservative’. Moore’s creation, ‘The Club for Growth’ gets cited as a conservative barometer for candidates.
Bernard, we should go into the costume business, there’s an abundance of wolves in sheep’s clothing these days.

The Spanish-language soap “Mas Sabe El Diablo” (”The Devil Knows Best”) soon will treat viewers to more than the typical vixens and hunks.
Even though the author reverts into the gelded court eunuch speak of a wonk, he still will be branded a “racist” even by the Asians who he champions as replacement Americans.
Lies,damn lies and statistics entry.
A number of years ago, Philadelphia’s crime statistics changed drastically from alarming to acceptable. It was learned later, the democrat city managers manipulated the actual numbers into a more soothing level.
No way do I believe LA’s crime figures.
Colombians and Central Americans. Also there is a very large and very poor Black population which may or may not be a contributing factor. The Black population in L.A. is generally more middle class.
I was remembering back into Rizzo’s second term as mayor but here is a more recent report... when Reno was AG.

Rizzo was a whore for the police and construction unions.
People of Philadelphia responded to Firm but Fair Frank.
They didn’t look past the blackjack in cummerbund as long as he was bringing them that elusive warm and fuzzy secure feeling.
Unfortunately, the police officers today are paying for democrat manipulations of the past.

Great link. I had always heard what a great guy Frank was, until I did some research on my own. He was one of the great frauds of urban American politics, much like another much praised former Mayor of Philly, now serving in Harrisburg.
The problem with open borders is really not that people cross over, take jobs and don’t pay taxes, it is the social services that NEVER should be a part of a free society. Without the payouts in medicine, food, and free money from the govt, the ebb and flow of immigration would be very small. That is why Libertarian thought was for open borders. I hope they have changed their tune on that by now.
Why would they do that when stupid Gringos are paying them to take it over?
BTTT!
