Okay, here we go folks. School has started in my state, there are already H1N1 cases involving teachers and students. They are talking about vaccinating everyone in the entire county, and it didn't sound voluntary. This is crap, something is not right about this. No other nation was destroyed but for some reason "America is in for it" ... Why is that?
WHO warns time running out for governments to prepare for dramatic spread of virus, predicting number of cases could double every few days
Hmm - vaccines later than they said:
H1N1 flu vaccine may take months

AVONDALE Swine flu vaccine may not be widely available until Thanksgiving, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Friday.
In the meantime, Sebelius told students and parents at Rockdale Academy, its important to focus on other measures to prevent the spread of the new flu virus, including frequent hand washing and staying home from school or work if symptoms appear.

Its too soon to tell how many Americans will get the flu, she told one youngster, but experts estimate that as many as 1 million have already had it.
It could be we see a couple of million people get it, she said. It could be there are a lot more.
Federal health officials have already said vaccine production will be delayed.
That means it could be between now and Thanksgiving before we have vaccine, Sebelius said.

When the vaccine is available, Sebelius said, there will be plenty for everyone who wants to be protected.
Vaccination will be strictly voluntary, she said, adding students who dont get vaccinated will be allowed to attend school, just as health-care workers who dont get vaccinated can still go to work.

Note: It seems vaccines are not going to be voluntary for some HCW in some places.
The day they wont ask for permission to vaccinate your child???? Where do we live???
Probably meant Tamiflu...
>>the public message is dont worry be happy, its mild mild mild
From my limited tv viewing lately, that seems to be changing, especially on the local news here in Boston.
That’s what I had asked him initially, is the hype justified, or are they panic mongering.....he said justified. He did add that they didn’t want to start widespread panics, so were toning down the alarmism but they really don’t know how widespread and fatal it may be.
Another thread here reported the first case of swine flu in a bird in Chile, a turkey.
The jump. Bad news.
Thanks for the reply. Yes, their message is changing but the early insistence on “it’s mild, just like regular flu” has really stuck with the public and much of the media (from what I can tell). Plus various Public Health entities keep saying the “mild” thing. Also, the CDC message is not consistent, changes from week to week, spokesperson to spokesperon - seems as though they’re either winging it, or answering to political/economic pressure from above, or most likely both.
I realize that no one can know the future of this flu, but the chances are very high that it will be much worse than a regular seasonal flu. It looks as though Tamiflu resistence is spreading, and that could increase the spreading and fatalities.
Just a gut feeling, but I think we’re in for a doozie.
In a country where fast food restaurants have signs imploring employees to wash their hands, there are significant issues of basic hygiene and sanitation in the population.
None of us have really experienced conditions of “plague”.
I agree. Humanity has been attacked with pandemic type diseases throughout history, and there is nothing to prevent such from happening again.
I agree about hygiene. That is one reason why I never, ever eat out.
I tell ya, I’m going out and carousing as much as I can these days, what with mileage fees and food taxes imminent and breathalyser ignition locks, and after that conversation with the scientist, that line from Heinlein lingers, “...something wicked this way comes...”.
Once schoolkids become sick, stay at home and infect parents......
Yes, schoolchildren are vectors, all right. Not only are they filthy, but their bodies create more virus particles, for a longer time.
“By the pricking of my thumbs, somcething wicked this way comes.”
Macbeth.
Mea culpa. Certainly a modern child I am, mistaking Heinlein for Shakespeare.
I happened to see Macbeth as a child; my mother was involved in a local production, so I sat through a lot of it many times. I am not a scholar, uneducated fool, actually. ;-)
I don't know.....THIRD BASE!
We live in the Marxist public school teachers’ village. They can and will do anything they want to your kids and they don’t care what you think about it because parents are too busy and twisted to box them in anymore.
