WASHINGTON President Barack Obama Wednesday said America, as the world's richest nation, had a moral duty to offer health care to everyone, in a fresh bid to bolster support for his top domestic priority.
Obama addressed thousands of people in a call with left-leaning religious faith leaders, as the White House tried to still disquiet among liberals, and fierce opposition among Republicans, to his under-fire health care plan.
"The one thing you all share, is a moral conviction, you know, that this debate over health care goes to the heart of who we are as a people," said Obama.
"I believe that nobody in America should be denied basic health care because he or she lacks health insurance," Obama said, after calling into a webcast including clergy and believers of Evangelical, Protestant, Catholic and Jewish orders.
"No one in America should be pushed to the edge of financial ruin because an insurance company denies them coverage," Obama said.
Obama hit out at what he branded "fabrications" whipped up by opponents of his policy, including claims that it would expand abortions, give health care to illegal immigrants and ration end-of-life care.
"These are all fabrications that have been put out there in order to discourage people from meeting what I consider to be a core ethical and moral obligation.
"That is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother's keeper and I am my sister's keeper," Obama said, using a phrase drawn from the Bible.

The principal problem in reflecting 0bama’s rhetoric and beliefs back onto him is that there is no image seen.
Get the garlic.
Yes. Given the accusations of the last few weeks thrown at American citizens opposed to his plan, a lesson on slander is more important.
We need a photo of zero getting into AF1 to go next to this photo.
What a #%$king hypocrite. Typical liberal - wants to force all of us to “donate” so he get off cheaper .... and he is obviously really cheap.
Politicians know this to be true and an independent public is a danger to their tenure.
So Mr. 0, when the government has taken all that I have and fails to help my "neighbor" how do I then "look out" for my neighbor? What Mr. 0 fails to see is, I can do more with what I have in helping my "neighbor" than he and his government minions could ever think of doing to help my "neighbor."
I only have one brother and he ain't among Obambi's flock of common theives.
Could you have imagined the uproar of the media if the situation was reversed. The MSM made sure this did not see the light of day during the election so their ‘hero’ Obama could be elected.
McCain would have been tarred and feathered and had to withdraw his name IMHO!
problem here is... i am MORALLY OPPOSED to the fedgov usurping power from the citizens and forcing taxes on us to provide goods for private citizens.
taxes are for the general good. if they can ever refuse a treatment i request, then that is not general good but a private good... and is specifically not allowed with within the Constitution
Keep in mind, the webcast was only to “progressive [LIBERAL] clergy ... no conservatives allowed.
“President Barack Obama Wednesday said America, as the world’s richest nation, had a moral duty to offer health care to everyone”
We also have a duty to provide free doughnuts, hamburgers, cars, HDTVs, Grandtheft Auto 8, sensible shoes, London Fog raincoats, digital cameras, laptop computers, full Encyclopedia Brittanica sets...
Where does it end?
Where is lightening when you think a strike is deserved. . .just speaking of a ‘morality’; while one’s actions disabuse all notions of such; seems to beg a ‘heavenly’ response. . .
“That is that we look out for one another, that I am my brother’s keeper and I am my sister’s keeper”
Random Americans are not my brother. Let their families take care of them. I’ll give what I choose to charity and what I choose to myself.
I want all that and a bag of chips and a puppy too.
” America, as the world’s richest nation, had a moral duty to offer health care to everyone “
Tort reform and practical approaches to helping those who have no or limited health care could go a long way.
Many churches have medical missions that take volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists
and other health care professionals from their congregations and go out into poor
and underserved areas like the Appalachians where they offer mobile health clinics.
It would seem logical and economically sound to encourage more volunteerism and fund raisers to
help support these missions and mobile clinics.
If there are well run county and charity hospitals
that could use more equipment
and beds and staff-it would seem to be practical and economical to help them.
Tort reform would be a huge benefit.
Instead , Barry decides to hijack the entire medical system, socialize it and suffocate it
in God’s name.
Truly; a Liberal mind is 'unto itself'. . .and by and for, itself. . .it is an empty, aberation of 'self' - in Caps.
Confounding; yes. ..disturbing and threatening; yes. . .
I agree completely. I have long maintained that if Ted Kennedy or Barack O think someone should have their medical care paid for, then please let them pay for it. But don’t steal money from others to apy for it.
Nowhere in the Scriptures are we told to forcibly take what belongs to one person and give it to another who we think needs it more. Indeed, the Word of God teaches just the opposite.
We are told that we are responsible for our own needs and for the needs of our families. The Bible teaches; “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1 Timothy 5:8)
There is nothing anywhere in God’s word that says the government is responsible to provide for us or our families. In fact, the Word of God instructs us that we shouldn’t even dump our responsibilities on the church either.
We are instructed; “If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.” (1 Timmothy 5:16) The church, not the government should help people who are unable to fend for themselves and have no family to support them (as a widow indeed).
So whether it’s Jeremiah Wright, or anyone else, preaching that God’s word supports any form of socialism, Bible believing Christians will reject that false doctrine.
