You obviously have never had to sit with a lvoed one and write and advanced health care directive. If you do not have one in place the doctors will do what they want. These are legitamate questions that are asked a person when they are rational and can consider all options.
This is not an out of line set of questions. They have been asaked for decades. Families who care how their loved ones are treated should have these discussions NOW. You can paint this anyway you want but all medical care these days depends upon advance care directives —— if you do not have one you better be lucid when you hit the hospital else wise they will do what they want
There is a HUGE difference between a family working this out with their doctor, and the federal govt making this mandatory.
The doctors are not allowed to ‘do what they want’. Please don’t spread ‘fishy rumors’ on FR....lol.
Did you read this piece of garbage? This is ridiculous and evil..especially for our service members. End of life planning is fine as long as it is between the patient, family members and the doctor. This survey is criminal in it’s wording and intent.
“He is depressed”
“OK, we’ll kill him for you”
A health care proxy is a much better choice in this matter. I sat with my mother when she was dying with my whole family around the table. My eldest sister was her health care proxy that knew beliefs and wishes. No document can be written to make the all the difficult choices. None.
“m. I can no longer think clearly-I am confused all the time.”
Disgusting! The circled items speak for themselves. If one is always confused would one have the clarity to answer ‘m?’ The wrong medication or other complications could add to this factor.
The most important assessment is the medical prognosis. It is up to the the patient/family and medical team to decided on a case by case basis ... NOT THE GOVERNMENT.
I also made sure that family member sat on them for awhile to make sure the choices were well understood and thought over.
Fortunately, that family member survived the operation, and will probably outlive me.
But that is between the family and a private doctor not the federal government involvement which is where I draw the line.
My parents had living wills and powers of attorney but the federal government didn’t come in and say no more healthcare as you are too old or disabled.
Huge difference. Like comparing an apple and an orange.
That is the ONLY part of your post I agree with.
However....there is no way in YOU KNOW WHERE I'd ask my Daddy or Mom or hubby...the types of questions on there.
Life is precious!!! It is God given!!!!
... for families to deal with as families ... but the government has no business in these matters.
I have never seen a health care directive which discusses a person deciding whether they feel they are a burden.
Health care directives can be made, but they are not usually directed in this fashion, in fact, I’ve never seen anything like this before and I presently have power of attorney and assisted with my father before he passed away. Please direct me to any directives that you are familiar with that is similar to this.
These forms are being used at the VA, not at hospice.
This is completely out of line to soldiers who have given so much for their country.
For the VA. I have viisted my VA several times and had surgery several times and in all times I’ve told them I did not have a living will and did not want to make one and that was the end. however, if the veteran qualifies for treatment, why would he/she consider the cost of the treatment on his family (He paid for the treatment with his service).
A patient may have otehr concerns, but medical treatment should not be unless Obama plans to make the veterans go on his public option.
Take the long march Maoboy, back to DU. zot
Why “Long March”? Was “Great Leap” taken?
I helped both my mom and dad with their advanced directives. The local hospital had an exceptionally good template.
Some of these questions are in my opinion not appropriate. My Dad was a veteran of world war II. The financial questions are especially inappropriate particularly for veterans. The veteran is entitled to medical care from the government system.
You are completely full of crap. They do what the family wants, even (sadly) bowing to their wishes in clear violation of advance directives. So, unless the patient is completely without relatives of any kind, your scenario is 100% BS.
Doctors ARE NOT allowed to do what they want. You sound like that moron Obama when he spouts the same lies.
I think the difficult but acceptable choice as the best choice is the point here. Plenty of People in wheelchairs would answer that they love their lives and are happy. Not living a difficult life but acceptable. Of course these talks need to happen but, when if I am healthy but am disabled, I am not going to begin talking about the end of my life. Those happen in the course time.
