U.S. Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao faced a tough crowd at the Westwego Community Center on Tuesday night, with skeptics of President Barack Obama's efforts to overhaul the health care system cheering for the least amount of government involvement in the health insurance sector.
Cao, R-New Orleans, spent the first 20 minutes of the hourlong town hall forum explaining the basics of the various bills, trying to dispel confusion and anger about "death panels," mandated health plans and other issues that have been raised at similar town hall meetings across the country.
"It is controversial because right now, with respect to our health insurance, we get to pick and choose what we want to purchase," Cao said. "But now, all of the policies are required to have essential elements. So that's why some people feel now that they lack the freedom to choose what they want because they might not want to pay for some of the things they have to pay for."

Well, there you go again, Joe!
WTH???
It’s a simple matter -
Congressman, explain how this bill will dispel the laws of economics when it provides “free” services to everyone without rationing?
Rationing = a government panel deciding who gets treatment and who doesn’t, who lives and who dies.
RINO
Cao represents $ Bill Jefferson's old district. I would imagine that those constituents that repeatedly reelected Jefferson would be more inlined to support the health care bill.
That said, I was under the impression that Cao has already stated that he would not vote for the bill as long as it contained a provision funding abortion.
Joe wrote me, begging for a campaign contribution. Said he was a conservative and went on and on about his family that fled the North Vietnamese Army (NVA.)
What’s the difference between the Democrats and the NVA?
RINO
No wonder he was elected in New Orleans! I should have known. New Orleans is as blue as it gets with two universities, New Orleans East and the 9th Ward (Katrina). They would have NEVER knowingly elected a conservative.
Go to hell, Cao.
You and the horse you rode in on.
There is no health care crisis,
and no one is coming after your children with giant clown shoes.
It’s all manufactured.
Gee, I wonder why?
Doesn’t matter. Chances of him getting re-elected are pretty slim.
He's trying to be all things to all people, and it just won't work.
Dear God, I hope he changes his mind. I was VERY disappointed in him when he voted for that stupid house cap and trade bill. He’ll get voted out next election if he stays on this road. I’ve called AND emailed his offices.
Huh? Cao wasn't one of the eight cap n' traitors. They were Mary Bono Mack, Mike Castle, Mark Kirk, John McHugh, Frank LoBiondo; Leonard Lance, Dave Reichert, and Chris Smith.
