PHOENIX (Aug. 17) - About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Monday the latest incident in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president. Gun-rights advocates say they're exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and protest, while those who argue for more gun control say it could be a disaster waiting to happen.
Phoenix police said the gun-toters at Monday's event, including the man carrying an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder, didn't need permits. No crimes were committed, and no one was arrested. The man with the rifle declined to be identified but told The Arizona Republic that he was carrying the assault weapon because he could. "In Arizona, I still have some freedoms," he said. Phoenix police Detective J. Oliver, who monitored the man at the downtown protest, said police also wanted to make sure no one decided to harm him.

Use your freedom or lose your freedom. Fear of the government is a prerequisite for serfdom.
About a dozen people carrying guns
Are they talking about the secret service agents?
Notice all of these have been peaceful. I’d pack if I was worried SEIU thugs were going to be there.
They wanted to make sure no one would harm him? HE’S CARRYING A RIFLE! May the attacker find themselves riddled with bulletholes, regardless of the toting-party’s political affiliation.
The MSM seems fit to report only on the fact that guns were present, NOT the fact that NO ONE WAS HARMED during the ENTIRETY of the event. This point alone should completely discredit the VPC and other anti-gun organizations’ claim that blood will be running in the streets when people are armed.
I find it comical that a LEO was “assigned” to watch this guy. What CO did he piss off?
I’ll bet ACORN thugs didn’t bother the armed citizens
Good for them. If folks need someone to blame, they can start with the SEIU and Democrat lawmakers that tried to bully the American people attending these meetings.
“The man with the rifle declined to be identified but told The Arizona Republic that he was carrying the assault weapon because he could.”
Note the “Assault weapon” spin the “journalist” adds to the article.
An AR-15 is NOT an Assault weapon. An M16 and/or an M4 is - if Enabled for Full-auto or burst fire.
The second amendment...there to protect the first amendment....
Everyone should have a gun and be proud to show it.Rights are to be used not abused.
The guy filmed carrying the rifle was an well dressed Obama supporter. He was surrounded by smiling union members...this was a liberal ploy to try and get the left up in arms about guns around the president
I agree.
It’s an awesome and amazing sight to see American’s practicing their legal rights.
What’s sad is, did these same people feel the need to practice those rights so visibly under past administrations? I don’t recall hearing about it. Or is everyone, facing the takeover of our way of life, finally just fed up to show they are not afraid to openly express their rights?
It is very good to see, and reminds us all, that this is still America - Land of the Free, Home of the Brave!
There is a poll on this article which needs pro-gun support:
Should people be allowed to take guns to a presidential event?
No, it’s too dangerous 62%
Yes, it’s their right 38%

Would a few dozen gays dressed like Borat get the same attention?
America lives.
That POS with the M4gery is a Pro Obama plant ..........check out all the videos. He is walking and talking with the pro oh boo boo SEIU sorts.
Watch AND listen......second thought turn down the sound and WATCH ......presstitutes are idiots !
I’m surprised the SEIU people don’t walk past the rifle people and suddenly scream, “Don’t Point that At Me!!!” to get the attention of the police.
“An armed society is a polite society”.
I didn’t see anything to indicate he is an Obama supporter.
