Use your freedom or lose your freedom. Fear of the government is a prerequisite for serfdom.

About a dozen people carrying guns
Are they talking about the secret service agents?

Notice all of these have been peaceful. I’d pack if I was worried SEIU thugs were going to be there.

They wanted to make sure no one would harm him? HE’S CARRYING A RIFLE! May the attacker find themselves riddled with bulletholes, regardless of the toting-party’s political affiliation.
The MSM seems fit to report only on the fact that guns were present, NOT the fact that NO ONE WAS HARMED during the ENTIRETY of the event. This point alone should completely discredit the VPC and other anti-gun organizations’ claim that blood will be running in the streets when people are armed.
I find it comical that a LEO was “assigned” to watch this guy. What CO did he piss off?

Good for them. If folks need someone to blame, they can start with the SEIU and Democrat lawmakers that tried to bully the American people attending these meetings.

“The man with the rifle declined to be identified but told The Arizona Republic that he was carrying the assault weapon because he could.”
Note the “Assault weapon” spin the “journalist” adds to the article.
An AR-15 is NOT an Assault weapon. An M16 and/or an M4 is - if Enabled for Full-auto or burst fire.

I’m surprised the SEIU people don’t walk past the rifle people and suddenly scream, “Don’t Point that At Me!!!” to get the attention of the police.

Phoenix police Detective J. Oliver, who monitored the man at the downtown protest, said police also wanted to make sure no one decided to harm him.
Uh, WHAT!! So the cop was concerned that some bright bulb might go up to the guy with the rifle over his shoulder and the gun strapped to his waist and DO HIM INJURY??!! Now THAT’S funny! The cops time might have been better spent protecting the UNARMED people from ACORN/UNION thugs!

Whoever said the guns were actually loaded?
On the other hand, while I get they're point, these folks may be pushing the envelope a little bit........

Are we hatched from different eggs than the people in positions of (armed) authority?
In the liberal mind, we must be.
If, at our core, we all have the potential to be a police officer, soldier, secret service agent, etc, how is it that unless we hold such a position, we can't be expected to possess the intellect or restraint to do so?
The dirty little secret is that we, the citizenry, hire them to do these jobs because we are busy with our own lives, not because the responsibility is beyond our grasp.
The other dirty little secret is that liberals have no problem with armed police and military because as politicians, they have the ability to give them orders to do their bidding. We the people on the other hand, who are free at least for now to think for ourselves, are anathema to a liberal because they can't control us in the same way. That is what scares the tights off of them, and why they desperately, in any way possible, want to disarm us.
So how does health-care fit into this?
That's easy, and it's the dirtiest little secret of all. They hope the citizenry doesn't figure it out until after the fact, when they would be powerless to change it, and that secret is, if they can't outright ban the citizenry from owning weapons because of that damned constitution, they must find another way, and you can bet it will have something to do with "the children", and that's where health-care enters the scheme.
If they could ram through their agenda of health-care, and make the government the sole arbiter of what is good for society and what is not, it will be no time at all before they try to ban firearms from homes citing statistics of children killed or injured in the home due to firearms. Never mind that more children drown in five-gallon buckets every year. That statistic is carefully and conveniently avoided, because it doesn't fit their agenda.
The fact is, they don't care about the children at all, and 50 million aborted children is testament enough to that. So no matter what they say, or how loudly they say it, or the rivers of crocodile tears they may cry, it won't be about "the children"
It would be because they know that when and if we have our own "Bastille day", WE WON'T BE BRINGING BUCKETS.
