The goal of the Democrats' plan for health care reform is coming more and more out into the open: They want to eliminate health insurance.
This is the line of attack the Democrats have chosen as they've gone into the August recess:
Private health insurance companies are evil, and big government is here to save us from them.
According to the New York Times, President Obama is planning an "August offensive against the insurance industry." It is "a campaign of increasingly harsh rhetoric" that is "intended to drive home the message that revamping the health care system will protect consumers by ending unpopular insurance industry practices, like refusing patients with pre-existing conditions."
That part about pre-existing conditions gives the game away. Health insurance companies refuse to cover pre-existing conditions for the same reason that you can't insure your automobile after you crash it.
Insurance is a form of financing for the unexpected and unpredictable. It is not a mechanism to force somebody else to pick up the tab for expenses you have already incurred.
Do the Democrats even understand what insurance is? Insurance is a form of financing. It is a contract under which a health insurance company agrees to pay for medical bills that could run into the tens of thousands of dollars, if you are hit by a bus or are diagnosed with cancer, so that you don't have to pay for those bills out of your income or savings.
So let's ask the question the left never asks: How is it possible for an insurance company to pay for these giant medical bills?
Welfare, Not Insurance

It’s all about how ones value is calculated by how much they support the collective.
Fascism
Peter Singer (Princeton bioethics professor) says in NYT, Rationing health care means getting value for the billions spent by setting limits on which treatments should be paid from the public purse .The task of health care bureaucrats is then to get the best value for resources they have been allocated .If a teenager can be expected to live another 70 years, saving that life gains 70 life-years, whereas a person of 85 can be expected to live another 5 years, then saving the 85-year-old will gain of only 5 life-years. That suggests saving one teenager is equivalent to saving 14 85-year-olds.
At last I finally understand how “life years” are figured. The age is the denominator!
Its all about what is best for the collective. When one retires, one should die.
*Bump*
I can relate...
It’s all STICK ... with no CARROT

yeah right......I used to think that until I broke my leg in an accident and they refused to pay until I got a lawyer.....insurance companies are sh!t
I heard on TV the head of United Health Care makes $102,000 per HOUR.
parsy, who thinks he is very overpaid
Very good article by Robert Tracinski! Thanks for posting.
Another misidentification of the problem.
Leftism is promoted through lies & manipulations, not through logical arguments.
They have academic arguments, which are principly there to provide a justification for the mindset.
Or is that more freedom (and responsibility) than your colllectivist heart can take?
They're searching for a new boogie man. The hate Bush rhetoric doesn't work anymore, because Oboma is worse. They can't attack Republicans, because they're not falling for the bait. They tried to demonize American citizens, but that came back to bite them.
"Quick! Think of something. Oh! How about "big" insurance? It's like, you know, "big" oil or something. That ought to work!"
Here’s a real good article on the difference between conservatism and liberalism.
As far as your suggestion, you now nothing about corporate realities.
parsy, whose conservative little heart is trembling at what the libertarians and anarcho-capitalists are doing to the country
Most have learned not to look that particular animal in the eyes, as he usually moves on with his 3rd person narrative if ignored.
Liberals define generosity by how much of OTHER PEOPLE’S MONEY they are willing to spend and therefore conservatives are stingy because we insist on US deciding how to spend our money.
btt
At least you can sue an insurance company. Good luck suing the government if they decide you’re too low on the “collective priority” scale.
From a secular POV, maybe. The real debate though is God versus no God. “Non serviam” said Lucifer and he says that to this day.
See “Tragedy of the Commons” to know the perils of collectivism.
