The L.A.Times' Dan Neil is confused. He thinks that the so-called progressive movement is right on all the issues, but he just cannot understand why they can't win the public debate. Neil laments that they have all the "English majors" on their side but cannot win "any war of words." Just what is going on here, he wants to know? He's so frustrated that he took to his keyboard to ask these questions in a Pittsburgh Gazette article from August 9.
In his piece, Neil wonders, for instance, why the "progressives" are so inept at debate and cannot convince the lowly voters of the merits of their argument even though they are obviously right? He goes on to bemoan that the "progressives" are trying, but are just too darn nice, too anti-inflammatory in their rhetoric. He concludes that it's time for the "progressives" to take off the gloves and fight dirty like the "insurance companies" have been doing.
Now, Mr. Neil seems like a smart fella. All his words and spelled correctly, and all. But for all his moaning and gnashing of teeth about why the "progressives" just can't seem to win he misses the elephant in the room. "Progressives" can't win because they are liars. And, as his blather in the Gazette shows, Neil is a liar, too.

With few exceptions, the progressives controlled the White House from the middle of the 18th century right up until FDR was elected.
Of course the progressives back then were Republicans.
“This is a raid on the American treasury plain and simple.”
Bad as that is, what’s worse is that they’re raiding our freedoms!!
i was an “english” major. education is meaningless without common sense. keeping your head shoved so far up a dark stinky place does not give one greater insight as to the workings of the world.
We understand the reality of human nature - the depravity of the human condition.
Leftists’ base assumption, the source of all their ideological error, is in the assumption that man is basically good. This leads to the belief that, given the proper environment (to be created by elites), man will behave in a manner conducive to the common good at all times.
Here’s an interesting little thing that Mr. Neil should focus his miniscule brain on - a columnist for the LATimes travelled with zero for the last 9 months of the campaign last year. When it was over, he stated that he still didn’t know who Barack Hussain Obama was!!
Mr. Neil should comtemplate that over his next bowl of Cap’n Crunch!
Really? Is he serious?
Are liberals really sitting around wondering why they can’t win a debate with words when their basic factual logic itself is so obscenely flawed?
I mean everybody knows that a college degree these days from *most* universities isn’t a measure of one’s intellect. It’s all about answering the questions in a way that liberal professors are assured they’ve thoroughly indoctrinated you.
This makes me think about what it must be like to be an Islamic Fundamentalist. Allah is always on the side of righteousness and goodness, and yet the West is continually kicking Islam’s ass. The cognitive dissonance must be mind numbing...
“Progressive” is just another term for someone whose head is stuck so far up his rear he can bite his own kidneys.
Dan Neil should know the answer to that one. It’s those evil Republicans and conservatives. If it weren’t for them, the World would be just perfect.
The Left has been demonizing us for the last forty years.
You can’t win when you have no facts on your side and no one can defy the laws of nature.
we need more engineers and computer scientists and we should stop giving student loans to english and journalism majors.
.....they have all the “English majors” on their side.....
And yet they must always ask “which is my ass and which is the hole in the ground”
“He concludes that it’s time for the “progressives” to take off the gloves and fight dirty...”
Oh, okay. Take off the gloves and what? Show us your syphlitic hands and bloody knuckles you drag through the dirt while doing the ape walk? Guess I’ll put up the Glock and carry a spray bottle of iodine.
