House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, insisting at the start of a long and politically heated summer congressional recess that healthcare reform can be achieved this fall, today are calling the disruption of "town-hall'' meetings by vocal protesters "simply un-American.''
"We believe it is healthy for such a historic effort to be subject to so much scrutiny and debate,'' Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Hoyer (D-Md.) write in an Op-ed essay published by USA Today. "However, it is now evident that an ugly campaign is underway not merely to misrepresent the health insurance reform legislation, but to disrupt public meetings and prevent members of Congress and constituents from conducting a civil dialogue,'' the two leaders write. "These disruptions are occurring because opponents are afraid not just of differing views -- but of the facts themselves. Drowning out opposing views is simply un-American.''
They point to a series of protests at congressional district hearings held by members of Congress this summer, including one where the likeness of a congressman in Maryland was hanged in effigy, one displaying the tombstone of a congressman in Texas and meetings where protesters have shouted down opponents with "Just say no.''
With Democrats accusing Republicans of orchestrating dramatic protests against the healthcare reform that President Obama and Democratic allies in Congress are promoting, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell suggests that Democrats should be worried.
"Look, I don't think either side ought to be trying to engage in disrupting meetings, either the Democratic side or the Republican side,'' McConnell (R-Ky..) said Sunday in an appearance on FOX News Sunday.
But "to demonize citizens who are -- you know, who are energetic about this -- strikes me as demonstrating a kind of weakness in your position,'' McConnell said. "In other words, you want to… change the subject…..

No elected official, no staffer, no “leader” of one of their supporting organizations, should be able to show their faces ourside their elite bunkers, without hearing loud and bold expressions of how the people really feel.
This goes for Republicans as well as Democrats.
It really angers me that my Representative believe my views are part of some campaign against America.
They are trying to convince other Democrats of this BS because we Republicnas know there is no campaign, in fact we cannot even get a Republican politician to open their mouth.
The Dims didn't expect this kind of pushback from INDEPENDENT citizens telling them off.
We haven't seen this kind of public anger in decades but the Dims just move to crush it like the tyrants they want to be.
Yep. It may be more accurate to start calling it political healthcare instead of government healthcare.

The left is marching to totalitarianism. They seek absolute power and tolerate no dissent. To accomplish this, they need to demonize and silence opposition. More and more Americans are beginning to see through the charade of hope and change and have become fearful for the future of America. To call these people un-American, is beneath contempt. The Clintons specialized in the politics of personal destruction. Obama, Pelosi and their ilk have escalated this to the politics of national destruction.
Does the hat come with the “Brooks Brothers” suit?
They make the mistake of not disarming us before attempting to crush our resistance to their tyranny.
So ... it would be more American to just bend over a take it? Was the American Revolution unAmerican? Was it unAmerican to protest the tea tax in Boston Harbor? Was it unAmerican to allow blacks and women to vote? Shut your pie hole, Pelosi.
It's just as easy for the speakers to stop the meeting as it was to start it. I.E., the AARP meeting that is all over youtube.
There has to be a happy medium. If all the media is going to show is patriots shouting and screaming, and no dialogue going on, we will not stop this thing.
Questions have to be asked, and, when the speaker does not directly answer the question, or lies in response, everyone must insist, in a calm manner, that the speaker truthfully respond prior to going on to the next question.
If at that time the speaker does not respond truthfully everyone in the room should just calmly get up and exit the hall and answer media questions outside. And, be armed with the truth when you do.
Be prepared with whatever literature you can: print outs that contradict what the speaker is now saying. A list of quotes from, not only the speaker, but from Zero would be a nice list to hand to the media. Anything that shows what they have said in the past and what they are saying now.
I know this is probably not going to happen. Just some random thoughts to get the creative juices flowing. We can't come off as nut jobs, like the left so often does. Now, should the thugs from the left show up and start some real trouble, then take Zero's advice. Hit back twice as hard! God forbid this kind of thing happens in a CCW state. We've got to keep this thing under control!
