New email endorsement shows AARP going all-out for Dems, Obamacare (is that legal for a non-profit?)

New email endorsement shows AARP going all-out for Dems, Obamacare

Not that there was any doubt about it, but a new email campaign by AARP's liberal Democrat-dominated Washington staff makes it crystal clear that the leadership of the 40-million member seniors group is going all-out for Obamacare and the House Democrats' version of it, H.R. 3200.

The email alert is especially interesting because AARP is a tax-exempt non-profit that is barred from participating in partisan campaigns, though it is allowed to do a limited amount of legislative lobbying of Congress. No doubt the AARP leadership in Washington will argue they aren't doing anything they aren't allowed to do as a 501(c)(4), but this new email campaign throws the spirit of the law right out the window.

But wait, there is more. Erick Erickson at Red State details the steps by which AARP's Washington staff has moved the organization to its present position, and notes the growing opposition within the membership.

SEIU & AARP....FYI

“AARP does not operate a PAC, but its employees gave candidates, committees and parties $53,200, with Democrats receiving 90 percent of that.”

SEIU & AARP...joined at the hip and helping write amnesty/healthcare legislation.

AARP uses your dollars to fund the likes of:

MALDEF - Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund

AARP says: “”Anybody who looks at immigration has to look at aging,” says Harry R. Moody, director of academic affairs at AARP. “First, immigration affects the age structure of society” by adding younger members to the population, he says. “Second, the people who do hands-on care work are immigrants. Look at our nursing homes! We have an image of people picking tomatoes — that’s not the whole story. Immigrants are the front-line caregivers.”

Meet AARP’s New CEO: A. Barry Rand

A. Barry Rand, chairman of the Board of Trustees at Howard University and a nationally recognized agent for social change, has been tapped as AARP’s new chief executive officer. He will become the organization’s first African American CEO when he assumes the position in April.

AARP Welcomes Jacob Lozada

AARP Board member Jacob Lozada gives AARP Segunda Juventud readers his perspective on issues facing U.S. Hispanics and how he hopes to boost AARP’s profile in his native Puerto Rico.

AND AARP works hand in hand with the SEIU. They are the ones formulating the legislation that the dems are pushing.

“– AARP, Business Roundtable and SEIU, which together represent more than 50 million Americans, today took another groundbreaking step for their “Divided We Fail” group by jointly delivering endorsed principles for health information technology (IT) legislation to Congress.

I actually just had my first one about two weeks ago at the Hilltop Restaurant in St. Ignace, MI! Too bad the meatloaf wasn’t that great!

Mine was at Food Lion. They actually deducted 5% - on beer! I so look forward to being a seasoned citizen.

nonpartisan

What a joke. Totally Left. Totally political. Anyone who is conservative and belongs to this organization is being taken for a ride. They support the very worst of the liberal politicians.

I have refused to join them.

Sigh. I wished I belonged to AARP just so I could cancel my membership and tell them why.

I cancelled my wife's and mine during the early Clinton years when AARP came out with a series of TV and print media ads falsifying the facts about those terrible "assault weapons" supposedly designed specifically to kill thousands of innocent civilians as quickly as possible. I told them why, but of course that didn't put the slightest dent in their media campaign to popularize Clinton's so-called "assault weapon" ban.

The facts at that time were that much less than 1% of all murders in the US were committed with so-called "assault weapons", and almost all of those killings were among competing drug gangs. But AARP ads made it appear that thousands of women and children were being mowed down every year by eeeviil assault weapons, when in truth fully automatic "assault rifles", i.e., full-auto machine guns, were already illegal for civilians to possess except for those few registered to thoroughly investigated individuals who paid a heavy tax for the "privilege' of exercising their 2nd Amendment rights under the provisions of the 1935 Gun Control Act.

IOW, AARP is nothing more than one of the multiple heads on the socialist/Marxist Hydra that is slowly but surely squeezing the life and liberty out of the American people.

Time to clean house, AARP members.

Don’t drop out just now, that’s counterproductive. Write letters/emails demanding the change in policy and of the leadership.

It is illegal for non-profits to campaign for a specific candidate. However, they can lobby for things they want to push. Don’t know if they’ve crossed the line. I exed AARP out of my life years ago.

But, if they have crossed the line a Marxist administration will not investigate—let along prosecute. Just like no politician—Pubbie or Demrat—will go after Black Churches for blatantly inviting their candidates to politic in their churches. We are in a more or less lawless era right now.

This is easy to take down....collect a separate, independent pole of AARP members....if they clearly and decisively DO NOT support the Obama administration, AND AARP leadership has published information revealing them to be in the tank for Obama...they lose their IRS 501C3 non-for -profit status....plus fodder for class action suits by seniors...

I am not an attorney...but I’m sure there are some legal eagles that can flesh this out a bit.

AARP is in violation of their non profit status by being partisan. They must remove from their logo “nonpartisan”...where are the attorneys fo file briefs??

Maybe Mark Levin’s legal foundation can look into this. IIRC, they are going to look into SEIU.

Thanks, because AARP is anything but nonpartisan...more like far left activism by infiltration of ACORN.

Does anyone know of another organization that my be less liberal/socialist that I can join?

A year or two ago, Art Linkletter was talking about some such organization that was conservative in nature. I don't recall the name and now I can't find anything on it.

We received an AARP request for membership the other day. I placed a very pointed letter in their self-addressed stamped envelop and mailed it back to them. It makes me feel good knowing I was able to tell them what I think about their organization and they paid for it.

I used to donate to the firefighters until I found out that their union thug-in-charge, Harold A. Schaitberger, was a huge lefty. No loot from me until they dump that dood.

I just read about this one on a blog, which morphed from another organization. Can’t vouch for them - maybe someone reading can:
