Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick of Arizona is the latest Democrat overrun by protesters at a local town hall event.
Sources say the protesters showed up after a robocall -- it's unclear from whom -- went out to Arizona voters encouraging them to show up at the event. The event was supposed to involve one on one chats with Kirkpatrick, a freshman member of Congress.
Kirkpatrick was unable to get the event started and canceled it.
"I am disappointed that the event was disrupted by a small but vocal group," Kirkpatrick said. "I grew up in Greater Arizona, and I remember the days when folks who disagreed would do so respectfully and were still able to work together on the important issues to find solutions."
Kirkpatrick is the latest Democrat to run into what Republicans have called "recess roastings," as congressional town halls from Utica, N.Y. to Austin, Texas, to Green Bay, Wis., have been disrupted this week by protesters. Debate continues over how genuine a grass roots movement this is, but POLITICO has reported that national conservative interest groups have helped organize some of the opposition.
"These 'chats' are meant to give people a chance to let me know what they need and what's important to them, and today's disruptions meant that a lot of folks did not get that chance," Kirkpatrick said. "I look forward to more public events, but more importantly I look forward to a return of civility and respectful dialogue where the focus is on the people and not scoring political points."
UPDATE: Turns out the anti-health reform group Conservatives for Patients Rights posted the Kirkpatrick event on its listing of town halls.
...Next up:
A massive march on Washington when Congress re-convenes this Fall.
Pretty soon these “meetings” will be by invitation only....
“.....and I remember the days when folks who disagreed would do so respectfully”
Translation
Ya those conservatives USED to be quiet and shut up when we shoved things down thier throat!
More MSM propaganda using cleverly crafted words. The movement is not about anti-health reform, but rather, against Obamacare and government control. Health reform is needed, just not the one espoused by Obama.
So, it’s illegal for Conservatives for Patients Rights to post congressional town hall meetings?
Uncle Barry is such a uniter, isn’t he?
If they don’t start respective that these protests ARE the legitimate voice of the American people they are going to find that the next time, they won’t be so nice.
One of threads -tampa or st louis..had someone infilitrate by posing as an Obama supporter...they were given lollipops and told to shove them in the face of people protesting..there is also a video of them getting their prep talk.. and you hear how just a few will be let in and they will be put in the back of the room.
I say ...pose as Obama’s supporters..that may be the only way to get in.
Absoloutely agree with you - The reason the libs are caught flat footed on this is because “Conservatives don’t protest” - they’ve never seen a reaction like this and they certainly didn’t anticipate it.
Keep it going folks.
“...I remember the days when folks who disagreed would do so respectfully...”
That’s before your party caused normal ordinary folks, pubs and dems alike, to reach a boiling point. Thats before your party was allowing this contry to be a third world nation and run into the ground.
I am praying the turn out will be massive. My wife and I will be there.
Correct, but you cannot expect the truth from the masters of doublespeak.
We want reform that reduces government control, eliminates unfunded mandates and allows real competition both within the medical industry and between insurance companies.
So Rep. Kirkpatrick, what are your plans after you lose the next election?
I agree a respectful back and forth would be nice. However at this point since Obama has asked for activism its not likely. Maybe people should ask Obama to open up debate instead of shoving voters around.
Already are...............
First time I ever had a Rep not respond. I was polite, low-keyed, gave him my name, address and phone number. Enough being polite. Going to write, get others to write and ask if the only reason he has his contact page up is to foward names to Axelrod. Give him link to the blog I'm putting up about his record and not replying to constituents too. His seat can be taken back. He won in 2006 by less than 100 votes.
“but POLITICO has reported that national conservative interest groups have helped organize some of the opposition.”
SO WHAT!
Oh, she must be referring the time B4 PRESIDENT George W. Bush! Where the hell was this dimwit the past 8 years?
