Bamboo-wielding guards at the royal palace in Stockholm have damaged a portrait of the first Bernadotte king while in hot pursuit of a renegade jackdaw, TV4 reports.
The jackdaw snuck into the royal cabinet meeting room via an open chimney. Royal guards, who were armed with bamboo sticks, chased the bird into the room as it flew directly at the painting.
In their attempts to apprehend the flying fugitive, the guards ripped a hole in Fredric Westin's 1838 portrait of Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte, who reigned as King Karl XIV of Sweden February 5, 1818 until his death on March 8, 1844.
The fate of the jackdaw remains unknown, but TV4 reported that the Royal Court now plans to put a net over the chimneys to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Fools. If they had simply left the doors open and a trail of food out the door, the bird would have left on it’s own.
Or they could have had Bubba Clinton come and escort it our of the building.
Serbia is a part of the Western world all right, but sometimes I wonder if not most of Serbia has surrendered to PC ideology. Serbia is a good example of a nation that resists Islam. But you can fight evil in a fruitful way and in an intelligent way. Serbia has always been hostile to all aspects of Austrian culture, among them, to Austrian skills of diplomacy. Patriotic Serbs must stop dreaming of big brother Russia to pave the way for them in the domain of Balkan affairs. Russia will never have that kind of power. Russia is only using Serbia as a disposable piece in a giant game of chess. I’m not hostile to Serbia. I might not believe in killing innocent Muslim children and raping their mothers, but on the other hand, I can’t see why Serbia should hand over parts of their territory to Albanians just because the UN says so. In this sense, Serbia has many allies. Regardless of MiloeviÄ, Kosovo belongs to Serbia.
“And this matters, why?”
- Don’t you have things like precious art where you live?
I bet Billy Mays would have had a product to fix that good as new.
- My English isn't especially good, but at least, I can see why the staff of www.thelocal.com don't work for The Times.
Something about chasing birds makes palace guards dislike paintings of bamboo sticks.
Or maybe the palace is named “Chasing-Birds” and the guards died while painting bamboo sticks.
I just can’t figure it out.
Jackdaws love my big sphinx of quartz.
(Eat your heart out, quick brown fox!)
We have shotguns in this country.
Perhaps a net would have been more effective...
At least they weren’t armed with bananas!
>.I cant see why Serbia should hand over parts of their territory to Albanians just because the UN says so. I
More than the UN, it was the bombing campaign carried out by the USA that accomplished that.
