Taxpayers to Pay for UNION Retiree Health Plans !!!
Boston.com ^ | 8-6-09 | Foon Rhei

Last week I noticed an odd, inexplicable provision in the House bill.

Page 65, Section 164 sets aside $10 Billion for "eligible" health plans...for retirees. Not only that, it specifies the retirees can be as young as 55 yrs old. Now, I know very very few non-union private companies offer retirement health care plans, especially not at 55.
House Bill

So I suspected this was a payoff to the UAW and other unions. I called my Congressman and Senators but NO ONE could explain this to me.

NOW TODAY I SEE CONFIRMATION OF MY SUSPICIONS.

At the linked article, they discuss the letter John Sweeney sent to AFL-CIO members exhorting them to turn out at town hall meetings. Buried in the letter is this nugget:

Sweeney [demands] ... the legislation contain "relief for company/union funds providing pre-Medicare retiree coverage...

Freepers, this is blockbuster stuff.

WE are going to be forced to pay for union health benefits that WE DON't GET.

Also union plans are exempt from single payer - I think I read.

I'd like to see info on that ... but IMO it doesn't make sense. If we have single payer there won't be any other [private] companies from which to buy coverage. They'll be out of business.

Oh, yeah. They’re exempt. The Dems inserted language that says the gov’t can’t “interfere with a union contract”.

And they don’t need insurance companies. They’re self-insured...now with our money!

Somewhere in here the unions are exempted but it is not obvious.

Puting all 2.5 million people in the health ins biz out on the street is the intent. Along with a major reduction in US population...

Why be upset?
We’re already subsidizing 50 yr old UAW retirees to get $3200/month and deluxe healthcare
This is just a small step past that.
Solidarity forever (Baraq + unions)

C’mon guys....let’s get this bumped back up.

Now that the unions are trying to shut us down, we MUST get this out.

I want SOMEBODY to ask the White House:

“These unions you’re sending out...won’t they be EXEMPT from the very health bill they’re demanding for everyone else?

Oh, and what’s this $10 Billion that seems to line up with Sweeney’s demands?!

Print out a copy of that section of the bill and take it with you. Highlight relevant sections. Give it to him.

He will try to say he can’t address provisions in the House bill. Don’t let him get away with it.

” At the linked article above, they discuss the letter John Sweeney sent to AFL-CIO members exhorting them to turn out at town hall meetings.

In the letter he also lays out the unions’ non-negotiable demands in the health bill. One of Sweeney’s demands is:

...that the legislation contain “relief for company/union funds providing pre-Medicare retiree coverage...

Freepers, this is blockbuster stuff.

WE will be forced to pay for union health benefits that WE DON’t GET!

Remember when the UAW whined about the “deep concessions” their retirees made so Obama could screw the GM bondholders? Well, here Obama is giving them back...plus a few billion.”

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2310136/posts

I bumped it, quite the story, huh. We end up paying these union stiffs to retire on the likes of thousands per month, a far cry better than the income I’ll be receiving.
