Economists can argue back and forth in the media about the effect of big government programs such as the stimulus package and Obamacare but few things have illustrated government waste as effectively as this disturbing YouTube video in which a well running Volvo engine was destroyed as part of the Cash for Clunkers program. This video is currently going viral on the Web and has sparked outraged comments from many people whom I suspect have previously remained somewhat uninterested in the often elusive topic of economics. However, the wasteful destruction of this car seems to have awakened an economic sense of revulsion to an extent rarely seen before.
Here is a sampling of their YouTube comments which are in sharp contrast to the glowing praise of the Cash for Clunkers program prevalent in the MSM:

The left/Democrats destroy car companies, jobs, economies, lives, cities, states (Michigan), etc.

C4C the whole idea is to get them off the roads permanently...bad for the environment

not just the engine, nothing can be re used, not a thing, no body parts, no drums, no windshields nothing, nada.
all gets crushed.
They are taking the first steps to get more people using public transportation or riding bikes as in other third world countries.
I know about the subsidy to the car buyer, but isn't there also a subsidy to the dealer who won't get a trade in out of the deal?
For the government to give it must first take. People cashing in clunkers don’t mind stealing from their neighbor, they just let the government do the robbing for them.
So the Volvo was a C4C trade-in and that was the dealer (or his employees) disabling the vehicle...? I see that the 2000 Volvo S80 is on the C4C eligibility list, but the vehicle they tanked looked brand new.

This is beyond anything believable to me! There was nothing wrong with that car! If that was a clunker then the only thing I hear clunking are the two ball bearings rolling around in that tin can brain of the idiot in the white house!
Yep, but Ford (F) stock is up. Looks better at $8.50 than $1.63.

FDR did a similar thing in the 30’s by destroying livestock to drive up the price of meat. All the while, people were malnourished and hungry in parts of the country.

I actually got tears in my eyes after watching that.
I look after my vehicles and have one over 230,000 miles and my current car has almost 170,000. Both run as smooth as the day they were new.
The current administration needs the same as they gave this poor car.
