GOP made it easy for Sotomayor
One News Now | 8/3/2009 | Chad Groening

Republican-oriented political action committee says the GOP could have done a lot more to derail President Barack Obama's pick of Sonia Sotomayor to be the next Supreme Court justice.

Last week Senator Richard Burr (R-North Carolina) added his name to the list of Republicans who will vote against the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. Burr admitted he is troubled by the judge's decisions in cases where she "appears to have relied on something other than well-settled law" to make her decision. He fears she cannot separate her personal beliefs from the law.

The Senate is expected to vote on the nomination this week. Despite the promise of "no" votes from Burr and others, most people believe Sotomayor's confirmation is a foregone conclusion.

Scott Wheeler, executive director of The National Republican Trust Political Action Committee, says the GOP should have done more to fight the Sotomayor appointment.

"They had her on the ropes numerous times with opportunities to make her explain some of her extreme decisions or expose her in the case of the Connecticut firefighter case, expose her as doing some things that were dishonest, that would disqualify her from being on the Supreme Court -- and they failed to do it," he contends.

Democrats would never have made it that easy for a conservative Supreme Court nominee, according to Wheeler.

"Republicans will never fight the way Democrats fight. The Democrats use every means at their disposal," he adds. "And in this case the Republicans had Barack Obama's permission to do it, because Obama was one of the few people who voted against Bush Supreme Court nominees...admitting that they were qualified but just disagreed with them."

Wheeler believes there were far better choices available to fill the high court seat vacated by Justice David Souter at the end of June.

The Democrat Party is the party of death, taxes, big government, socialism, communism and a host of other things all detrimental to the health of the USA.

The Republicran Party is just plain stupid!

Long past time to dish up a legitimate third party that will sap the strength of both of these dangers to freedom.

They should have fought her tooth-and-nail, charges of racism and sexism be damned. It's better to stand for something isn't it? But with GOP senators like Lindsey Graham, who stands for nothing, our disappointment never ends.

Surrender seems to be supported here, too. I was pointing out that it was Sen. Grahamnesy’s vote that allowed Sodamier to get out of committee and am still troubled by the fact that no Republican is laying that blame on Grahamnesty. Sadly, a couple freepers responded that the Democrats could roll over the Republicans anyway. So let’s save them the trouble, I guess? Kind of like the birther situation. We expect to lose on the issue, so why bring it up? Or, Ron Paul has proven to be a prophet on the Federal Reserve, but Ron Paul threads are littered with “freepers” who attack him and supporters who feel compelled to offer a disclaimer when they sheepishly agree with him “...on this issue.”

"Republicans will never fight the way Democrats fight

That's because they have nothing to fight for. The Democrats have a unifying "ism" that gives them focus and to which they stay true.

The Republicans, on the other hand, are like new hires in the marketing department sitting around a conference table trying to dream up a new "fad" and failing to do so, they decide to take turns to launch their ideas with hopes that eventually they will hit upon a winner;"OK, it's Dole's turn." "Let's let George have a go at it." "Now let's give McCain's idea a try." "Who's next?"

"When you don't stand for anything, you stand for nothing"

The vote to get this out of committee required one republican vote. The fine and honorable senator from south carolina made sure the “wise latina woman” would be on the supreme court.

"Journalists" can right all the articles they want to about Sotomayor, but its all nonsense, its all a waste of time to write it. The GOP caving to the Sotomayor nomination can be explained in 5 simple words:
RACE
RACE
RACE
RACE
GENDER

Replacing an old flaming liberal with a much younger model ensures we are plagued with a leftist legacy well into the future.

That truly is the part that sickens me. In response to some contending that “she was going to be appointed anyway, why fight” I tried to point out that if we did not have the courage for this fight we couldn’t win much of anything else.

Sadly, it seems many on Free Republic have become surrender monkeys.

The Democrat Part works for the New World Order. The Republican Party WILL NOT OPPOSE The New World Order. That’s whether you believe conspiracies exist or not.

WE need a real 3rd Party. The GOP have betrayed us to the powermongers. The RINOS have kicked the ideals from the party. We need a solid Conservative Party that speaks the will of the American People. No Ross Perot ego trip here only a real desire for change and reform. Sarah Palin lead us! It may well be too late now to form a national party but we can make our voices known. Resign from the GOP, give them no more money, Support people who are conservatives only—say no to RINOS.

...it was Sen. Grahamnesy’s vote that allowed Sodamier to get out of committee...

Perhaps someone will be able to dig up some dirt on this weasel forcing him to resign.

Somewhere there's a photo showing him french-kissing a poodle.
