As Dem pundits go, I normally find Kirsten Powers among the more reasonable. But on this afternoon's Fox News Watch, Powers propounded perhaps the most despicable theory yet of the Gates/Crowley incident: that the sergeant "lured" and "tricked" Gates into coming outside so he could arrest him.
Panelist Jim Pinkerton had just made the point that it was only the conservative media, by focusing attention on the matter, that saved Sgt. Crowley from a "miserable life in Cambridge" at the hands of Prof. Gates, Harvard, the NAACP et. al, when Powers jumped in . . .

Worst theory yet on Gates-Crowley incident. Ping to Today show list.
That theory has been bandied about on FR.
I think had that happened, Gates would already be screaming.
This is one stupid race baiting b****
or someone who needs to make up some “news”
to justify her existence.

She’s smart, tough and VERY liberal...plays the cute card real well...which she can obviosly get away with...but can really slip the knife in...she’s tough...I hope they don’t keep giving her more air time, personally, shes’s like a cute girl Obama in campaign mode...sounds reasonable quite a lot, rope a dope’s you and then you find yourself going “what did she say?”
A black prof on Hannity’s radio pgm on Wednesday proposed the same thing, and I think that Prof from Temple who shows up on BOR raised the same bogus point.
Kirstin Powers is at her best when she is dressed in her black cape flying her broomstick into the light of the Moon!
I hope she needs a Policeman someday, and they recognize who she is before offering their help! I LOVE the beautiful smile of SATAN’S on her face in this picture.
Powers is dead on right IMHO. Gates could not have been arrested inside his home without a warrant under the circumstances thus far.
People may disagree on whether or not Gates was lured outside. I read the report and that was the first thing that came to my mind. If I was betting on it, and had cop under sodium pent., thats where my money would go.
parsy.
So if you were the cop and had a report of two possible suspects in a house, you would have gone right inside instead of asking them to come out?
More comments like yours and PMSNBC will be hiring her away! and Good Ridance!
Can we call them tricksters?
If we assume that the officer wanted to make a "cheap pinch" and wrongfully charge Gates with something (and that's a big assumption), it would have been far easier to do without any witnesses, i.e. while he was inside the house.
He had his dispatch on the radio, and all he had to do was scream, "Drop that knife! Freeze! All units! All units!" and presto! instant corroboration of an actual felony, not a mere misdemeanor.
But he wasn't trying to get Gates arrested, he was trying to investigate a reported burglary where one of the reported two individuals had not yet been located or identified. He wanted out of the house for his own safety, not so that he could get Gates out in front of witnesses to prefer a bogus charge.

We can only hope - then no one would see her again...It would be like exile...
“Powers is dead on right IMHO.”
Gates acted suspiciously by not cooperating with the cop. Arrogantly threatening Crowley made it worse. Yelling at a cop and talking about his momma is never a good idea.
I think Crowley did the right thing up to a point. Asking Gates to go outside, provided witnesses to Gates bad behavior.
If I had been Crowley I would have tasered him. He had it coming.
