Screaming constituents, protesters dragged out by the cops, congressmen fearful for their safety welcome to the new town-hall-style meeting, the once-staid forum that is rapidly turning into a house of horrors for members of Congress.
On the eve of the August recess, members are reporting meetings that have gone terribly awry, marked by angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior. In at least one case, a congressman has stopped holding town hall events because the situation has spiraled so far out of control.
I had felt they would be pointless, Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) told POLITICO, referring to his recent decision to suspend the events in his Long Island district. There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.

Given the performance of Congress lately, they should consider themselves fortunate that people aren/t showing up with torches and pitchforks.
Tar, feathers, and a rail come to mind as an acceptable alternative.
I think we’re protesting at the wrong places.
Democrat congressmen don’t listen to us anyway. They aren’t scared as much as they should be.
We should be protesting at media locales, TV stations, Newspapers, NPR broadcast studios, ...
Scare the crap out of all of them.
Last fall, Congress passed TARP over the objection of some 3/4 of the voting public...
In the November election, incumbents were returned to office in near-record numbers...
We-the-people have demonstrated to our ‘elected servants’ that they can safely ignore us without electoral consequence..
As we sow, so shall we reap.....
Exactly. You pointed out the media spin for them quite well.
Unplug your TV - from what I gather on FR the propaganda on the teevee has gone into high gear. Let the teevee go dark - just like we’ve stopped buying newspapers. That message will be heard loud and clear.
1) The majority of voters are hopeless idiots who will always support the incumbent, OR
2) The electoral process is completely corrupt, and they don't really count votes anymore.
Either could be true. But either way, it sure seems like a waste of time for me to show up and vote. (Note: I haven't missed an election since 1978 -- but I'm not that interested in future outings.)

I’m with you.
Then guilt sinks in. If I vote, at least I can say I showed up.

The really sad part is that we’d be more supportive if they told the truth and asked everyone to sacrifice (from taxing the rich to cutting benefits to the poor) to fix the nation. But, all they ever bring home is their divisive politics that require one group to sacrifice for the “needs” of another. Even when they talk about bills that are supposed to “save the planet”, they quickly point out that someone else will have to do the suffering. Our political class doesn’t know what America stands for anymore and that’s why we greet them with anger and hostility. The consider themselves to be nobility and then wonder why the peasants hate them.
Yeah, those people in that video were sure unruly. /s
Bishop can go straight to hell.
Not buying this crap......proabably TWO people didn’t bow down to the Congressman, and asked a serious question! HOW AWFUL!!
Cool it.
unfortunately, the republican clowns don’t get it either. They run rinos and “moderates” to appeal to the “center”
"Out of control" means "unable to control the narrative," not "unable to control the crowd."
At some point, and I don't have a sense of how far in the future, civil society is going to break down. The insistence on the part of politicians to "control the narrative" will bring about, will CAUSE, civil unrest. Throw them out of office.
How come MY links never, ever work?
Thank you, NoObama.

We tried intelligent conversation. You didn’t listen then, either.
