State Senator Faces Lewd Conduct Allegations (Guess Flanagan's party)

A longtime state lawmaker and current candidate for Vermont lieutenant governor has been accused of masturbating in the locker room at the Burlington YMCA.

Archambeau said he and another patron saw Flanagan masturbating Friday on a bench between the YMCA sauna and nearby showers.

According to Flanagan, the accusation is completely false and on Wednesday, he dismissed the claim but did offer an apology.

"If I did anything to offend anybody, I'm very sorry," said Flanagan.

The Chittenden County Democrat denies the allegations and told NewsChannel 5 he will not be returning to the YMCA.

YMCA President Mary Burns would not comment on the incident specifically, but did say she is looking into the complaints against Flanagan.

Despite the allegations, Flanagan said he has no plans of suspending his campaign. "There are lots of reasons not to be clothed, and I have no idea why people construed that whatever I was doing, like, in the sauna or in the whirlpool -- I have no idea why they construed it that way," Flanagan said.

But according to Totten's account, the incident is not the first time YMCA members have complained about Flanagan's behavior...including one incident where Flanagan allegedly was running on a YMCA treadmill wearing only shoes, socks and a watch.

Totten also outlines a previous story published by Seven Days in December. That story outlined some of Flanagan's statehouse behavior, which included sorting candies on his committee room desk and sitting laying prone on the floor. According to he article, titled "Continuing Ed," Flanagan suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2005.

I wouldn't have bothered with this but the same-day contrast to the Tennessee republican's story is interesting. Party affiliation only mentioned way down in the story on this one, not the headline as with the republican senator.
