Sacha Baron Cohen has stepped up his security after being threatened by a terrorist organisation that is angered at its portrayal in the film Brüno.
The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, a coalition of Palestinian militias in the West Bank, said it was very upset that it featured in the film starring Baron Cohens homosexual fashionista alter ego.
Baron Cohens Austrian character ridicules the terrorist group when he attempts to get himself kidnapped during a meeting with Ayman Abu Aita, who is identified in the film as the leader of the Martyrs Brigades.
The London-born actor is reportedly taking the threat seriously and has improved security arrangements for himself and his family in preparation for violent reprisals.
The Martyrs Brigades has issued a statement to a Jerusalem-based journalist including a veiled threat against Baron Cohen, 37. We reserve the right to respond in the way we find suitable against this man, it said. The movie was part of a conspiracy against the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades.
The group condemned the use of the interview with Mr Abu Aita. According to what we checked there was was no meeting about the real context of the film, the statement said. This was a dirty use of our brother, Ayman, and we dont accept that the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is part of the film.
The group is alleged to be responsible for dozens of suicide bombings and shootings. It has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the European Union and United States. Baron Cohens Austrian character is shown telling Mr Abu Aita: I want to be famous. I want the best guys in the business to kidnap me. Al-Qaeda is so 2001.

I think Cohen might have stepped in it ....bigtime.
I have no desire to watch any of his movies, but this is kind of funny (not the threat, but the “alQueda is so 2001” bit).
Can’t stand they got fooled by a Jew?
But of course. With the left it’s agree with me or I’ll kill you.
What? It wasn’t the pro-life or evangelical community getting all upset and making death threats? It should have been perfectly safe for him to mock the oh-so-tolerant religion of peace.
And here’s the funny part. Cohen has spent most of Borat dissing US Southerners and trying to get us to say stuff that was anti-semitic. One comment in a film about Al Queda though, and you’d better beef up the security.
That’s what I was thinking.
I’d side with the terrorists on this one!
Not to worry. Radical moslems and homosexuals are political allies. It’s all one, big, happy family!
>>I want to be famous. I want the best guys in the business to kidnap me. Al-Qaeda is so 2001.<<
Seriously Sasha, these guys mean business. Although this is a pretty funny line, you picked up the security so apparently, you do care.
That got a chuckle out of me, too.
I want to see how this plays out, if and how the media reports it. I wouldn’t spend a red cent on the movie but at least he had the guts to go where no cowardly Hollywood libtard has ever gone before.
I'm starting to want to see this movie.
I thought that was just in the obamanation regime?
LOL! Now that’s a bad movie.
Good for you Sacha. Rooting for you over the Muslims.
Who would have thought it? Jewish guy portraying a homosexual insults an Islamic terrorist organization and now he has to be worried. Opps.
The western world elites in the entertainment industry think that they can mock anything and anyone without consequences. Our constitution protects me from the government’s interference with what I say. With everyone else I am on my own. It is just ordinary laws against assault and murder that protects me then.
People need to grow up. If you insult or bad mouth someone you had better be man enough to keep your own ass from getting kicked.
Free speech is not a license to curse, libel, mock, insult or otherwise hurt people. Resorting to such talk always runs the risk that the response may escalate into something you cannot handle.
