That charge is so outrageous for 0bama to have made! Not just pedi-docs, ANY physician, surgery is the last option. As you say, the risk of trouble, death is there each and every time under GA, there is no doctor willing to chance his license and jail time ordering up a surgery just to pad the bank account. To have him stand there and launch that with a tone that made it look as though it is common knowledge, why EVERY doctor just runs you through the operating room to afford his mansion ... makes my blood boil.

How long, do you think, before one of these presstitutes, talking-head show guys points out the the pediatrician who recommends a tonsillectomy doesn't actually do it, a surgeon does? And the fees for said surgery include paying the anesthesiologist, the OR nurses, the use of the operating room, equipment, pre- and post-op staff, etc., etc., etc.??

I have had over three dozen operations, each and every time I got the disclosure lecture on how, while rare, not expected, there is always the chance that something can happen while under general anesthesia, you may not wake up. I have a situation where I have needed brain and spinal cord surgery, many times I needed surgery to function, but my body wasn't at the point where I absolutely had to have it, my neurosurgeon would say to me, "I know you need it, but you're not at the point yet where I am convinced the risk of surgery is worth the help you will receive from it." (Not the delay for treatment horror anecdotes we're all hearing, this was reasonable delay).

I never had trouble under GA, but even so, the anesthesiologist always had to discuss my history, ask about other surgeries, experiences with GA, tell me that though I have had no bad effects, that I was still risking it. I can see how much more difficult it would be to administer GA to small children as opposed to full-grown adult.

I hope this little toss-off from 0bama that he probably thought was going to make the American people more sympathetic will anger doctors, surgeons, especially pedi-docs to the point that they begin to make some noise. This was just outrageous, to make a blanket charge this way.
